An electrical switching apparatus includes a plurality of poles, each of the poles including a terminal. The terminal of a first one of the poles is proximate the terminal of a second one of the poles. A jumper is electrically connected between the terminal of the first one of the poles and the terminal of the second one of the poles. The jumper includes a plurality of heat transfer members, each of the heat transfer members being separated from others of the heat transfer members.

An attachment apparatus is usable as a line terminal or load terminal of a circuit interrupter to enable a conductive element that includes a ring terminal to be electrically connected with a conductor of a circuit interrupter. The attachment apparatus employs a conventional lug which serves as a connector. The lug includes a threaded engagement element. The attachment apparatus further includes a connection element having a threaded receptacle that is structured to receive a shank of a threaded fastener. The shank is received through a hole formed in a ring terminal and is further threadably receivable in the receptacle of the connection apparatus to enable the ring terminal and a wire connected therewith to be reliably electrically connected with a line conductor or a load conductor of the circuit interrupter. The threaded shank can be unthreaded from the connection element to permit removal of the ring terminal and associated wire.

A crossbar assist mechanism is for a circuit breaker including a housing, a movable contact, a stationary contact, and an operating mechanism. The operating mechanism includes a crossbar, a carrier coupled to the crossbar, and a movable contact arm which is pivotably cooperable with the carrier. The movable contact is disposed on the movable contact arm. The crossbar moves the carrier and the movable contact arm, thereby moving the movable contact into and out of electrical contact with the stationary contact. The crossbar assist mechanism includes an electrically conductive member electrically interconnecting the carrier and the movable contact arm to a load terminal. A spring disposed between the crossbar and the electrically conductive member biases the crossbar from a first position corresponding to the movable contact and the stationary contact being separated, toward a second position corresponding to the movable contact being in electrical contact with the stationary contact.

A shunt wire spacer provides for proper spacing between the shunt wires extending from the movable arm to the bimetal within a circuit breaker, thereby ensuring that the shunt wires do not come together during over-current conditions within the circuit breaker, and preventing the shunt wires from interfering with the movement of the trip bar.

A solenoid type magnetic trip assembly for a molded case circuit breaker includes an armature biased against an adjustable stop by a tension spring to set the initial gap for the magnetic trip, so that the spring bias remains constant for the full range of the initial gap. The armature includes an elongated magnetically permeable member mounted by a frame to slide longitudinally along a pair of guide rails. The frame defines a trip surface axially aligned with the elongated magnetically permeable member which engages a trip arm on a trip bar to trip the circuit breaker in response to a predetermined level of overcurrent. A bimetal providing a thermal trip function is cantilevered from a support spaced from the trip bar by the armature, but has a terminal portion at the free end projecting toward the trip bar and through which the elongated magnetically permeable member of the armature extends. A radially enlarged slug on the free end of the elongated magnetically permeable member of the armature is subjected to a magnetic force opposite to the force generated by load current tending to pull the armature into the solenoid coil. This opposing force increases as the initial gap increases, placing the slug closer to the magnetic frame, so that a greater range of trip currents can be selected despite limited room for armature travel. A gap in the magnetic frame prevents short circuiting the magnetic field where the few turns of a large gauge coil wire produce an unsymmetrical winding. A magnetic shield protects the bimetal from deformation during high current short circuits.

An adjusting knob assembly includes a knob member having a knob and an axially extending shaft. A support bracket has an aperture defined in part by a gapped ring section formed by a pair confronting arcuate fingers. The shaft and the aperture have complimentary, longitudinally extending, circumferentially distributed flat surfaces, which provide discrete angular positions for the shaft when the complimentary flat surfaces are in register. Preferably, the gap between the confronting fingers is sized, and the arcuate fingers have a compliance sufficient that the shaft may be passed laterally through the gap and snapped into the aperture. Any one of a plurality of interchangeable cam members can be press fit on to the end of the shaft.

A terminal connection for a flat stab of an electrical switch includes a spring clip which retains a nut in alignment with an aperture in the flat stab. The spring clip is fabricated from a strip of resilient electrically conductive material and has a top wall with a central aperture, side walls extending downward from the top wall and having slots therein, an end wall extending downward from the top wall and a bottom wall cantilevered forward from the bottom of the end wall under the top wall and between the side walls. A square nut is retained in the spring clip with its tapped hole aligned with the aperture in the top wall and with either an aperture or a depression in the bottom wall. The fastener assembly clips onto the end of the flat stab with the stab between the nut and the top wall of the spring clip. A screw passed through the apertures in the top wall and the flat stab engages the nut to secure a conductor to the stab. The slots in the side walls of the clip prevent rotation of the nut and provide positive stops which resist loss of the nut through application of excessive axial force to the screw.
