A large round baler is equipped with a net wrap feeding mechanism mounted to the rear and bottom of the bale discharge gate. The feeding mechanism includes upper and lower feed rolls, with the lower roll being located closer to the discharge gate than the lower roll and, the pair of rolls thus being arranged to deliver wrapping material against an upright run of bale forming belts, the latter acting to carry the net to a pinch point formed between the belts, where they pass around a lower rear belt support roll, and a guide pan of a net material guide assembly that extends beneath and adjacent a lower run of the belts. A net wrap material cut-off device includes a fixed knife blade located forwardly of and extending parallel to the lower feed roll. The cut-off device further includes a pair of transversely spaced cut-off arms between which extend and to which are fixed an anvil. The arms are mounted for pivoting between a raised standby position, wherein the anvil is located adjacent the upper feed roll and a lowered cut-off position, wherein the anvil is engaged with the knife blade. A row of bristles is located between the lower feed roll and the knife blade at a position where it acts to strip the lower roll of net material having a tendency to wrap about the lower roll and to entangle the net material as the latter is brought against the bristles during severing of the net material tensioned between the feed rolls and the pinch point after a bale has been wrapped. The entangled net material results in the leading end of the net material becoming folded back on itself at the beginning of the next wrapping cycle, such doubling together with the operation of spreader rolls acting to deliver the net material to the baling chamber at its full width.

An apparatus for wrapping net about bales formed in the baling chamber of a large round baler is arranged such that the net material supply roll is pressed directly against the driven wrap material feed roll by a pressure roll carried by a pair of transversely spaced lower arm portions of a lower arm section of a vertically swingable pressure arm assembly that also includes a separate, upper arm section. The force pressing the pressure roll against the supply roll originates with gas springs coupled to a linkage that is in turn coupled to transversely spaced upper arm portions of the upper arm section, these arm portions carrying respective force transfer rollers that engage respective intermediate sections of the lower arm portions. Associated with each lower arm portion is an inverted L-shaped bracket having a short leg pivotally mounted between the axis of the pressure roller and one end of a guide link which cooperates with the short bracket leg and the lower arm portion to form a four-bar linkage which acts to properly position retainer rolls, respectively mounted to the end of the long leg of each of the inverted L-shaped brackets, adjacent the periphery of the supply roll so as to prevent the supply roll from moving away from its desired location on the drive wrap material feed roll. The lower pair of arm portions are shaped for cradling a new roll of wrapping material when lowered to a loading position from which they may be raised to move the supply roll in engagement with the driven net feed roll. A guide structure is provided which cooperates with bale forming belts for conveying the wrapping material, once fed through the feed rolls, beneath the bale discharge gate and through the inlet of the baling chamber.

Large wrapping net roll pressure arm assembly serving also as a loading platform

A large round baler is equipped with a device for wrapping bales with a web of net wrapping material. The device includes structure for supporting a spare supply roll of wrapping material a short distance vertically above a zone for containing an active supply roll of wrapping material. The structure for supporting the spare roll is selectively movable to a non-use position for permitting a pressure-applying roller, that normally engages the active supply roll of wrapping material, to be swung vertically out of the way so as to permit the spare supply roll to be moved into place as the active supply roll once the latter is depleted. A pair of retractable loading supports are provided for supporting the spare supply roll at a location reawardly of the zone prior to moving the spare roll into the zone to take the place of the depleted active supply roll. A net guide roll has one end mounted for being selectively lifted to permit easier threading of a length of net that has been pulled from the spare supply roll when the latter is located on the loading supports.
