The multiple membranes include at least a first membrane and a second membrane. The multiple membranes have different response times to different constituents of the sample. The detector is for detecting the different constituents of the sample after interaction with the multiple membranes. In addition, a method for chemical analysis of a sample. A first step includes introducing a sample to multiple membranes having different response times to different constituents of the sample. A second step includes separating the different constituents of the sample due to the different response times of the multiple membranes. A third step includes detecting the different constituents of the gas after separating with the multiple membranes.

A system for analyzing an analyte is described herein. The system includes a chamber having an inlet and a semi-permeable membrane arranged to seal the inlet. The semi-permeable membrane includes a cross-linked mixture of a first compound and a second compound. The system can also include a radiation source arranged in the vacuum chamber, the radiation source spaced apart from the semi-permeable membrane and adapted to irradiate the semi-permeable membrane with electromagnetic radiation at a frequency at least partially absorbed by the semi-permeable membrane.

A detector in a residual gas analyzer (RGA) is configured to receive ions traveling in a downstream direction along a beamline and includes a steering electrode offset from the beamline. A first ion-receiving electrode is at least partly on the opposite side of the steering electrode from the beamline. A second ion-receiving electrode is at least partly offset from the beamline, at least partly across the beamline from at least a portion of the steering electrode, and at least partially upstream of at least a portion of the steering electrode. A shielding electrode is arranged at least partly between the beamline and the second ion-receiving electrode. A source applies a potential to the shielding electrode. A residual gas analyzer (RGA) includes an ion source, an analyzer, and such a detector.
