A data visualization system provides data visualization objects to a live document author for incorporation into a live document. The system is responsive to selection of one or more objects by incorporating the object in a hypertext markup. Objects may include view objects, such as bar charts and dynamic tables, text objects, which permit an author to guide a reader through the live document, and interaction objects which permit a reader to interact with a live document. The system also permits views to be linked by an author and interaction sessions to be saved by a reader.

Method and apparatus for data visualization

An interactive display system includes a display such as a cathode ray tube (CRT), for example, and a display controller. The display controller and display operate in concert to display graphical images that are representative of numerical, tabular, data. The display system may be used to edit, for example, to create or modify, the data tables being graphically represented. The edited data tables may be used to simulate processes, such as workflow processes.

Method and apparatus for graphically manipulating data tables

A work center monitoring system includes an output device, such as a cathode ray tube (CRT), liquid crystal display (LCD), or other display device and a display controller. The controller formats work center information to be displayed on the output device as single-valued and multi-valued display segments. Each segment displays information related to work center activities, which may be categorized as various skills. The displays may be provided to a work center supervisor to assist in the management of a work center, such as a contact and fulfillment center. Current and historical values of the parameters may be displayed, simultaneously, or in sequence. The values of the displayed parameters may be different types, such as any of a variety of numerical representations which might represent the number of calls in one or more queues, or the oldest call in a queue, for example. The values may be indicative of the elapsed time for servicing the oldest call in a queue, or other indications of time. The information being displayed may derive from a number of sources such as a work center management database, directly from a call management system, or from some other source. In accordance with the principles of the invention, the displayed parameter representations include indicia of 'permissible' parameter values. One such indicator might be an 'I-beam' glyph that indicates the highest and lowest acceptable values for a particular parameter. The area immediately surrounding such an &#x201c;I-beam&#x201d; glyph may include further indicia, such as graduated zones of acceptability.

Method and apparatus for monitoring work center operations

A workflow display system in accordance with the principles of the present invention includes an output device, such as a cathode ray tube (CRT), liquid crystal display (LCD), or other display device and a display controller. The display controller and display operate in concert to display graphical images that are representative of workflow information. Textual information may also be displayed. Such a display may employ the size, color, and number of glyphs to represent the number of work units in one or more work states. Other display characteristics, such as patterns, flashing, or other such visual queues may also be employed to convey information about workflow in a manner which is readily comprehensible. For example, in a telephone contact and fulfillment center application, the size and/or number of circles may indicate the number of waiting calls in a given state.

Method and apparatus for displaying work flow information

A natural language-based interface data presentation system interfaces, for example, information visualization system interfaces, is realized by employing so-called open-ended natural language inquiries to the interface that translates them into database queries and a set of information to be provided to a user. More specifically, a natural language inquiry is translated to database queries by determining if any complete database queries can be formulated based on the natural language inquiry and, if so, specifying which complete database queries are to be made. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, knowledge of the information visualization presentation is advantageously employed in the interface to guide a user in response to the user's natural language inquiries. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, knowledge of the database and knowledge of the information visualization presentation are advantageously employed in the interface to guide a user in response to the user's natural language inquiries. In accordance with still another aspect of the invention, knowledge of the database, knowledge of the information visualization presentation and context information about the query dialogue are advantageously employed in the interface to guide a user in response to the user's natural language inquiries. In one or more first prescribed embodiments of the invention, the set of data presentation information can be in audio, visual, or both audio-visual form. In one or more other prescribed embodiments of the invention, the inquiry and data presentation information delivery process can be interactive between the user and the interface. In one or more still other prescribed embodiments of the invention, one or more modes of user-interface interaction can be utilized. These modes of interaction can include text, speech, point and click, or the like.

User interface for translating natural language inquiries into database queries and data presentations

A network system is provide which includes a computer with a monitor and a storage device and a printer separate from the computer. A computer program is provided for creating a file that when sent to the printer will produce multiple sets of a document with a label applied to selected pages of the document and wherein images of selected document pages and labels may be viewed on the monitor, merged for viewing on the monitor, stored, and then printed. In another embodiment a data file of information may be selected and selected fields merged on selected document pages, stored and then printed.

A novel telephone call center agent monitoring and display system has a graphical user interface that allows a call center manager to automatically display a detailed multiple bar graph view of the status of particular agents currently engaged in agent activities specified by the manager for a duration also specified by the manager, the detailed view being linked to a composite view of the status of all agents being monitored by the manager. In the preferred embodiment, an agent status summary view displays in bar graph form, the collective statuses of all categories of agent status monitored by a call center manager corresponding to the longest time in the category for all of the agents monitored by the manager. If desired, the manager can &ldquo;drill down&rdquo; to a linked detailed view to display the duration of every agent currently in a chosen status category when the duration in that activity is within a time window chosen by the manager. Using a pointer device or simple keystrokes, the manger can generate a highlighted rectangular area on the summary view defining both the agent statuses of interest and minimum and maximum duration's of interest.

Telephone call center monitoring system allowing real-time display of summary views and interactively defined detailed views

Method and apparatus for providing visualization of information contained in a data set is provided. The data set is arranged in first and second categories of data, and a selection variable and a summary variable are chosen from the second category of data. A unique value is located in the first category of data which matches each selection variable, and a statistical summary of the summary variables is computed for each located unique value in the first category of data. The resultant display is based on the computation of the statistical summary.

Calculation and visualization of tabular data

A system that has a graphical user interface (GUI) that allows a user to readily define and manipulate a transform function from one attribute, such as numerical value, to another attribute that is more understandable by by the user such as color, size or location. Special two thumb slider controls provide the transform functions. The two thumbs define break points for piecewise linear transform ranges. Further, the center transform range can be manipulated as a unit to show the user what happens if the range is maintained essentially constant but the break points are varied. The aid to visualizing characteristics otherwise hidden in large data sets, such as a monthly telephone bill of a large corporation, is very beneficial.

Method and apparatus for a slider

A method and apparatus for the three dimensional graphical display of information. Information is displayed as nodes and arcs connecting nodes. The nodes and arcs are displayed with their three dimensional characteristics used to encode data attributes. In one embodiment, the nodes and arcs represent geographic network data and are displayed on a representation of a globe. The height of the arcs above or below the surface of the globe encodes a link attribute of the data, while the height of the nodes above or below the surface of the globe encodes a node attribute of the data. Three dimensional characteristics of the nodes and arcs other than height may also be used to encode data attributes. In addition, the three dimensional representation of the data allows for novel thresholding techniques, such as drawing certain nodes and arcs below the surface of the globe and using the globe as a clipping surface. User interaction is also enhanced, for example by allowing users to interactively manipulate the clipping surface as well as the three dimensional display characteristics of the nodes and links.

An earth boring machine with a rotating cutter head having a multiple of individual cutters positioned at different distances from the center of rotation and angularly spaced from one another on the cutter head while the cutter head itself is shaped to direct the cuttings into a collecting area, which may be under the center of the rotary head or which may be concentric about the center area, has elevator means, which may be mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic, to remove the cuttings from the collection area, and has one or more crushing rollers thereon arranged to crush cuttings which are too large for effective removal by the elevator means into small chips or fragments together with barrier means for restraining such oversize pieces in the path of the crushing roll or rollers so as to prevent their entry into the collection area until they have been adequately crushed. The barrier means so provided are arranged to permit the smaller fragments and chips to move into the collection area with little impedance.
