An apparatus and method are disclosed herein for processing exposed photosensitive self-developing film in a single use camera.

Single use camera employing self-developing film and method thereof

There is disclosed an improved photographic apparatus of the self-developing type and method of operation which includes a film assemblage. The camera includes a housing assembly; strip of photographic film; a strip of self-developing photosensitive film; a foldable strip of carrier sheet material; a mechanism for taking up the photosensitive film strip past an exposure station for exposure thereof and for storage of the exposed photosensitive film strip. An advancing mechanism is provided for advancing the exposed photosensitive film strip from the taking up mechanism and the carrier strip through an exit. Provision is made for a mechanism which is operable for dispensing processing fluid between the exposed film strip and the sheet; and, a pressure applying mechanism is operable for superimposing the photosensitive film relative to the carrier sheet following dispensing of the fluid between the film and sheet for distributing the fluid over preselected portions of the exposed photosensitive film to form an integral photographic film strip in response to the advancing mechanism withdrawing the strip and the sheet through the pressure applying mechanism and the exit.

Certain squaric acid derivatives are useful for the thermochemical generation of acid. The squaric acid derivatives may be used in imaging media in conjunction with acid-sensitive materials which undergo a color change when contacted by the acid generated from the squaric acid derivatives. Preferably, the acid-sensitive materials undergo an irreversible color change, so that the image can be fixed by neutralizing all the acid generated with excess base, thereby preventing further color change in the image during long term storage.

An image-receiving element for use in photographic and photothermographic diffusion transfer film units of the type wherein the image-receiving element is designed to be removed or 'peeled-apart' from a photosensitive element following exposure and processing. The present image-receiving element comprises in sequence, a support, an image-receiving layer, and an overcoat layer. The overcoat layer comprises a major amount by dry weight of water-insoluble particles and a minor amount by dry weight of a water-insoluble polymeric latex binder material. The water-insoluble particles may comprise inorganic particles such as colloidal silica, and/or organic particles such as water-insoluble polymeric latex particles.

There are described a diffusion transfer photographic film unit of the type wherein an image-receiving element is designed to be separated from a photosensitive element after photoexposure and processing and a photographic process which utilizes the film unit. The photographic film unit comprises a photosensitive element including a support carrying at least one silver halide emulsion, an image-receiving element comprising a support, an image-receiving layer and, optionally, an overcoat layer and/or a strip-coat layer. At least one of the image-receiving layer, overcoat layer or strip-coat layer includes a 'crosslinkable material' which is crosslinked during processing. The film unit further includes means for providing an aqueous alkaline processing composition to the photosensitive element and the image-receiving element for developing an image. The aqueous alkaline processing composition includes a borate compound for crosslinking the crosslinkable material of the image-receiving element during processing.

An image-receiving element for use in photographic and photothermographic diffusion transfer film units of the type wherein the image-receiving element is designed to be removed or 'peeled-apart' from a photosensitive element following exposure and processing. The present image-receiving element comprises in sequence, a support, an image-receiving layer, and a strip-coat layer. The strip-coat layer serves to facilitate separation of the image-receiving layer from a photosensitive element after processing. There is described a multicolor diffusion transfer film unit having a plurality of different color image components, each of which includes a color-sensitive silver halide emulsion in association with a corresponding image dye-providing material and a first silver halide developer which takes part in photographic development to provide an imagewise pattern of diffusible image dye-forming material as a function of photoexposure. At least one of said color image components includes a second silver halide developer, or a precursor thereof, which is capable of developing silver halide indiscriminately and which is made available after photographic development in the color image component in which it is located is substantially completed.

An image-receiving element for use in photographic diffusion transfer film units of the type Wherein the image-receiving element, which includes an image-receiving layer, is designed to be removed, or 'peeled-apart', from a photosensitive element after exposure and development have been carried out. The image-receiving element includes an overcoat layer which overlies the image-receiving layer for reducing the time period for which the image-receiving element remains tacky after the element has been separated from the photosensitive element and for improving the handling and/or storage of the resulting photograph under high humidity conditions. The overcoat layer comprises colloidal silica particles and binder material.

An imaging medium comprises a layer, depolymerizable by exposure to actinic radiation and substantially non-tacky prior to depolymerization but becoming tacky upon at least partial depolymerization, disposed adjacent a layer of an imaging material, which has a cohesive strength greater than the adhesive strength between the imaging material and the depolymerizable layer prior to depolymerization. This medium is imagewise exposed to radiation, thereby causing at least partial depolymerization of the polymer in the exposed areas, so rendering these exposed areas tacky and firmly attaching exposed areas of the imaging material layer to the depolymerizable layer. The unexposed areas of the imaging material are then removed from the depolymerizable layer.

An imaging medium comprises a layer, depolymerizable by exposure to actinic radiation and undergoing a reduction in cohesivity upon at least partial depolymerization, disposed adjacent a layer of an imaging material, which has a cohesive strength greater than the cohesive strength of the depolymerizable layer after depolymerization. This medium is imagewise exposed to radiation, thereby causing at least partial depolymerization of the polymer in the exposed areas, so rendering these exposed areas lower in cohesivity than the unexposed areas. The exposed areas of the imaging material are then removed from the depolymerizable layer.
