The invention relates to an improved food-grade-lubricant useful as hydraulic oil, circulating oil, drip oil, general purpose oil, grease base oil, cable oil, chain oil, spindle oil, gear oil, and compressor oil for equipment in the food service industry. Specifically, it relates to a composition comprising at least one polyalphaolefin base fluid, at least one food grade polyolester base fluid, and at least one food grade performance additive.

The present invention relates to a lubricating basestock for the blends of hydrofluorocarbon and optionally hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerants comprising a blend of (A) at least one alkylbenzene and (B) at least one polyol ester. While alkylbenzenes are not miscible with the refrigerant blend at the desired operating temperature and pressure of refrigeration or air-conditioning systems, the addition of low concentration of polyol ester is found to greatly improve the miscibility of the alkylbenzene and polyol ester blend. An important criteria of the invention is that the lubricant blend of polyol ester and alkylbenzene are sufficiently miscible with the hydrofluorocarbon refrigerant blend both as a liquid and a gaseous refrigerant over the operational temperatures of the compression refrigeration system.

The present invention relates to a lubricating basestock comprising a blend of (A) at least one polyalkylene glycol and (B) at least one alkyl aromatic. Additives, such as antioxidants, corrosion inhibitors, and metal deactivators, can be added to the lubricating basestock. In one embodiment, the lubricating composition is free of naphthol. The blend can also be used in combination with a variety of oils of lubricating viscosity, with or without additives therein. According to the present invention, the lubricating composition exhibits excellent oxidation and thermal stability, demulsibility, and hydrolytic stability. The lubricating composition is particularly useful as a positive displacement compressor lubricant.
