A method for cleaning a nozzle of a material deposition system configured to deposit material on an electronic substrate includes: performing a deposition operation with a material deposition system configured to position an electronic substrate under a deposition head movable by a gantry, to supply material to a chamber of the deposition head, to extend a piston of the deposition head from the chamber, the needle terminating in a needle orifice, and to push a volume of material out of the chamber by an actuator of the deposition head to form a desired volume of material at the needle orifice that is deposited on the electronic substrate; and cleaning the needle orifice with air directed to the needle orifice.

Method for cleaning a nozzle of a material deposition system

A material deposition system includes a frame, a support coupled to the frame to support an electronic substrate during a deposit operation, a gantry coupled to the frame, and a deposition head coupled to the gantry. The deposition head is movable over the support by movement of the gantry. The deposition head includes a chamber to hold material, an actuator to push a volume of material out of the chamber, a needle extending from the chamber and terminating in a needle orifice, and at least two air jets located on opposite sides of the needle orifice. A desired volume of material is formed at the needle orifice in response to the actuator, and each of the at least two air jets produce a timed pulse of air to create a micro-droplet from the desired volume and to accelerate the micro-droplet to high velocity.

Material deposition system and method for depositing materials on a substrate

A dispenser for dispensing a volume of viscous material on a substrate includes a frame, a gantry system coupled to the frame, and a dispenser unit coupled to the gantry system. The dispenser unit includes a housing having a chamber, and a piston disposed in the chamber. The piston has an elongate body and is configured to move between a pre-dispense position and a dispense position within the chamber. The dispenser unit further includes a motor to drive the movement of the piston within the chamber. The motor includes a rotating shaft, a wheel coupled to the rotating shaft, the wheel having at least one drive magnet, and a driven magnet disposed between wheel and the piston. The dispenser further includes a nozzle coupled to the housing. The nozzle has an orifice to dispense viscous material. Other embodiments of the dispenser and methods of dispensing are further disclosed.

Magnetic drive for dispensing apparatus

A dispenser for dispensing a volume of viscous material on a substrate includes a frame, a gantry system coupled to the frame, and a dispenser unit coupled to the gantry system. The dispenser unit includes a housing having a chamber and a piston disposed in the chamber. The piston is configured to move between a pre-dispense position and a dispense position within the chamber. The dispenser unit further includes a dispensing bore configured to receive the piston therein and a nozzle coupled to the housing. A controller is coupled to the piston to control the operation of the piston. The dispenser is constructed such that a volume of viscous material dispensed from the dispensing bore is substantially equal to the volume of the piston entering the dispensing bore when moving the piston to the dispense position. Other embodiments and methods of dispensing viscous material are further disclosed.

Method and apparatus for dispensing a viscous material on a substrate

A needle foot assembly for a dispensing system includes a needle nut, a rotatable bearing, a friction brake, and an end piece holding the needle foot. The needle foot assembly attaches the needle to a dispensing head of the dispensing system. Rotation of the bearing alters the orientation of the needle foot and needle. The needle foot is removeably attached to the end piece and can be adjusted with respect to height.

A dispensing system and method for dispensing material onto a substrate. The dispensing system includes a frame, a support, coupled to the frame, that supports the substrate at a dispensing position in the dispensing system, and a dispensing head, coupled to the frame, that dispenses the material onto the substrate. The dispensing head includes a motor unit having a first motor coupled to an output drive mechanism, and a dispensing unit, removably coupled to the motor unit, having a material outlet from which the dispensing material is dispensed, the dispensing unit having a dispensing mechanism coupled to the material outlet and coupled to the output drive mechanism of the motor unit such that operation of the first motor causes the dispensing mechanism to dispense material through the outlet. The dispensing head may be controlled for deposition of dots of material having diameters smaller than a dispensing needle of the dispensing unit.

Dispensing system and method

A needle cleaning system, for use with a liquid dispensing system that dispenses a quantity of material through a dispensing needle or transfer pin, includes a vacuuming device coupled with a residual material collection device, wherein the collection device includes at least one appropriately shaped orifice for receiving an end of the dispensing needle or pin. The liquid dispensing system further includes a control system for periodically positioning the dispensing needle or pin relative the orifice in the collection device. The vacuuming device creates an airflow, which passes around the exterior of the needle or pin and into the collection device, thereby removing residual material from the exterior of the dispensing needle or pin without contact.

Needle cleaning system

Aspects of the present invention are directed to methods and apparatus for dispensing material onto substrates. A dispensing system is provided for dispensing a metered quantity of dispensing material onto a substrate. The dispensing system includes a dispensing pump, a container, coupled to the dispensing pump, to contain the material prior to dispensing, and a computer control system to control operation of the dispensing pump. The dispensing pump includes an inlet that receives material from the container, an outlet from which material is dispensed, a plurality of dispensing chambers each chamber having a piston movable within the chamber, a valve, positionable to selectively couple the dispensing chambers to the inlet and the outlet, a drive cam, coupled to the pistons, to control movement of the pistons within the chambers to draw dispensing material into the chambers and to dispense dispensing material from the chambers, and a motor coupled to the computer control system and to the drive cam to provide movement of the drive cam to cause dispensing material to dispense from the dispensing pump.

Variable volume positive displacement dispensing system and method

A dispensing system and method for dispensing material onto a substrate. The dispensing system includes a frame, a support, coupled to the frame, that supports the substrate at a dispensing position in the dispensing system, and a dispensing head, coupled to the frame, that dispenses the material onto the substrate. The dispensing head includes a motor unit having a first motor coupled to an output drive mechanism, and a dispensing unit, removably coupled to the motor unit, having a material outlet from which the dispensing material is dispensed, the dispensing unit having a dispensing mechanism coupled to the material outlet and coupled to the output drive mechanism of the motor unit such that operation of the first motor causes the dispensing mechanism to dispense material through the outlet.

Multiple head dispensing method

A dispensing system for dispensing a quantity of material includes an inlet port to receive the material, an outlet port from which the material is dispensed from the dispensing system, a housing having an inner chamber with an adjustable volume, a first valve operable in one of an open mode of operation and a closed mode of operation. The first valve is disposed between the inlet port and the inner chamber in such a manner that when the first valve is operating in the open mode, material may flow from the inlet port into the inner chamber, and when the first valve is operating in the closed mode, material is prevented from flowing from the inlet port into the inner chamber. The dispensing system also includes a second valve operable in one of an open mode of operation and a closed mode of operation. The second valve is disposed between the outlet port and the inner chamber in such a manner that when the second valve is operating in the open mode, material may flow from the inner chamber to the outlet port, and when the second valve is operating in the closed position, material is prevented from flowing from the inner chamber to the outlet port.

Controllable liquid dispensing device

Aspects of the present invention are directed to methods and apparatus for dispensing material onto substrates. A dispensing pump is provided for dispensing a metered quantity of material onto a substrate, the dispensing pump includes an inlet for receiving dispensing material, an outlet from which the dispensing material is dispensed, a dispensing apparatus having a plurality of inputs and a plurality of outputs, a motor, coupled to the dispensing apparatus that controls flow of material from the plurality of inputs in the dispensing apparatus to the plurality of outputs in the dispensing apparatus, and a distribution apparatus coupled to the dispensing apparatus to transfer material from the inlet to the plurality of inputs and to transfer material from the plurality of outputs to the outlet, the distribution apparatus including a plurality of plates coupled together to form the distribution apparatus.
