The present invention provides a primer for a thermoplastic and/or elastomeric substrate, the primer comprising a film of an epoxy-modified polymer selected from the group consisting of an epoxy-modified-thermoplastic polymer, an epoxy-modified-thermoplastic polymeric composite, an epoxy-modified-elastomeric polymer, an epoxy-modified-elastomeric polymeric composite, a blend thereof, and any mixture thereof. Also provided are methods of repairing, inserting, assembling and coating a thermoplastic or elastomeric substrate using the primer of the present invention.

Primer composition and uses thereof

Disclosed is a nanocomposite comprising a nano-reinforcing material (e.g., layered clay), a polymer matrix (e.g., a polyolefin), and, an epoxy-functionalized graft polymer compatible with the polymer matrix (e.g., epoxy-grafted polyolefin). Such nanocomposites are useful in the fabrication of a variety of materials including parts for the transportation and packaging industries, electronics, business equipment, building and construction materials.

Known organic solderability preservatives (OSP) contain an azole compound and are applied on a copper surface from an acidic solution. The OSPs are not visible to the naked eye when applied. A number of dyes compatible with the OSP solution and not interfering with solderability has been identified. The composition containing such a dye can produce a layer which is visible to the naked eye when applied even in a thin layer. The suitable dyes contain a cationic imine group having the general formula ##STR1## where X.sup.- is an anion such as chloride, iodide, sulphate, etc., or an organically bonded anionic group such as sulphonate.

Organic solderability preservative compositions

A novel high-performance binder system is provided for the fabrication of segregation-free iron based powder blends. The blends are prepared by using a binder system comprising thermoplastic resin polyvinylpyrrolidone and a suitable compatible plasticizer such as polyethylene glycol, and optional solid lubricants. The binder system enables the manufacture of segregation-free iron-based powder blends with high flow rate and compressibility, enhanced apparent density, green strength and transverse rupture strength, and low dimensional variations compared to unbonded powder blends and to blends made with PVP or PEG only as the binder.

A method and apparatus for determining surface molecular orientation and related properties of an opaque polymeric sheet relies on the detection of relative intensity of spectral reflectance in at least one polarized beam reflected from the surface of the sheet rather than transmitted therethrough. The relative intensity is affected by the preferential orientation of the polymeric chains. The method is fast and can be applied on-line at a speed of the running sheet as high as 1000 m/s.
