A method of automatically creating trust communities in a fleet of devices. The method includes finding candidate devices in a fleet of devices via one or more candidate discovery techniques and generating device-related data based on the candidate devices that are found, analyzing the device-related data via an analytics engine and creating one or more fleet orchestrator device lists based on the analysis of the device-related data, and automatically creating one or more new trust communities or suggesting joining one or more previously existing trust communities based at least on the one or more fleet orchestrator device lists for the candidate devices, wherein the one or more new trust communities or previously existing trust communities include at least a sub-set of the devices in the fleet, and wherein at least one of the managed devices in the sub-set of devices is configured as a root device to publish files via a file sharing function.

A method of detecting fraudulent use of a printing device including a non-contact memory tag, comprising receiving, by one or more computer processors, a request to read the tag, receiving, by the one or more computer processors, information from the tag, determining, by the one or more computer processors, an installed configuration of the printing device from the information, comparing, by the one or more computer processors, the installed configuration to a current configuration of the printing device, and in response to determining that the current configuration is not the same as the installed configuration, indicating, by the one or more computer processors, that a violation exists.

A method provides for language selection on a shared local user interface, such as an interface for operating a printer that is used by multiple users having a variety of first languages. The method includes providing at least one mechanism on a shared local user interface for selection of one of an original set of languages for text to be displayed on the local user interface. One mechanism may include displaying text in each of the languages contemporaneously or sequentially. At a plurality of times, a respective user's selection of one of the original set of languages is received. Based on a plurality of user selections, a modified set of languages can be learned which is then used in place of the original set of languages when providing the at least one language selection mechanism at a subsequent time.

A method for managing security settings of a print device using a lockdown mode includes receiving a request for enabling a lockdown mode. The lockdown mode prevents modifications to configurations of one or more components of the print device. The method further includes activating the lockdown mode. Activating the lockdown mode includes modifying a plurality of security settings corresponding to lockdown configurations of the one or more components of the print device, and disabling one or more modes that a user may use to modify the plurality of security settings. The method includes storing the plurality of security settings and the associated lockdown values in a security module, performing a compliance check to detect if current values associated with the plurality of security settings have changed by comparing to the lockdown values, and performing a remediation action in response to detecting that the one or more security settings have changed.

A method of providing native scalable management of a fleet of managed devices, which includes establishing a Trust Community, which includes a sub-set of the managed devices, organizing the Trust Community, configuring one of the managed devices in the organized Trust Community as a Root Device to publish files via a file sharing function, adding the Root Device to a distribution profile stored in a database, creating or downloading files via the Root Device, and sharing the files with other devices in the organized Trust Community via the Root Device. Any devices on hold or offline are placed in a temporary working area for reorganizing. Download and install schedules are set up on a per device or a bulk basis according to policies. Files are placed into a staging area before re-distribution and checked for security, integrity, and/or completeness via checksums, digitally signed certificates, and/or internal structure checks.

A method for sorting a group of managed devices includes querying a database of managed device with a sort query, such as an SQL query. The sort query captures an initial adjacency list in which managed devices are ordered, based on their respective parent device. Each of the managed devices is associated with a set of attributes. The initial adjacency list is sorted, e.g., using a depth-first search, based on at least one sorting criterion to generate a sorted adjacency list in which managed devices having a common parent device are reordered, based on respective attributes. The sorted adjacency list can be represented as a sorted directed graph, such as a directed tree. Modifications can be made to the sorted directed graph. A visualization of the sorted and optionally modified directed graph is output and/or a file is distributed to at least some of the managed devices, based thereon.

Apparatus are provided that includes a multi-function device that is configured to perform a plurality of functions relating to manipulating a document. The multi-function device can have a display configured to display interface tool for facilitating the customization of a function of the multi-function device. The interface tools allow a user to communicate with the multi-function device to enter information relating to the customized function. The custom application can be configured to be installed on the multi-function device, and the custom application is used to customize the multi-function device.

Methods and systems receive a request to print an item into a computerized device, and automatically create print driver output files. Such methods and systems also automatically combine the print driver output files into a multiple page description language (multi-PDL) file for the item and store the multi-PDL file in a non-volatile computer storage medium. This multi-PDL file allows the decision on which of the page description languages or other formats are needed to be delayed to a time when it is clear what device, method or system will be using the output files. Subsequently, the methods and systems receive an instruction to print the item into a printing device. In response, such methods and systems automatically retrieve the multi-PDL file from the non-volatile computer storage medium using the printing device, and automatically select one of the driver output files from the print driver output files in the multi-PDL file.

A method, service, system, computer program, etc., provides a list of acceptable authentication servers that a user could use to log in when accessing a networked device, such as a networked printer or document processing device. The embodiments include preparing a module, such as a dynamically loadable module (DLM) for use in the networked system accessed by the users. Each of the networked devices is enabled to accept the DLM. The embodiments forward the DLM to the networked devices as a print job along a print job submission path within the network. The networked devices recognize the DLM as a special job. Further, the networked devices use the DLM to install the XML file on each of the networked devices. Thus, the authentication server lists and authentication programs are updated within each of the networked devices using the DLM.

Certain types of digital printers are susceptible to the deletion of image data toward the edge of print sheets of certain sizes. To avoid deletion of significant image information, an interpreter associated with a printer can reduce and translate each printed image slightly, to cause the printed image to be &ldquo;shrunk away&rdquo; from edge areas on the print sheet. A program associated with the interpreter reads the header of a job submitted thereto, and determines whether this image reduction is desirable, based on the identity or type of a source computer submitting the job.
