A transport refrigeration system includes a compressor having discharge and suction ports and at least one electric compressor drive motor disposed within the compressor. The system includes a condenser heat exchanger unit and an evaporator heat exchanger unit operatively coupled, respectively, to the compressor discharge port and the compressor suction port. At least one fan assembly having an electric fan motor is configured to provide air flow over at least one of the heat exchanger units. The system includes an integrally mounted unitary engine driven synchronous generator assembly, which is configured to selectively produce at least one A.C. voltage at one or more frequencies. The compressor drive motor and the at least one fan motor are configured to be directly coupled to the synchronous generator and to operate at a voltage and frequency produced thereby. The compressor is provided with means for unloading at least a portion of the compressor's compressing capability. Controls for the system are provided for selectively energizing the means for unloading the compressor during certain operating conditions of the refrigeration system, such as during start up of the compressor.

Start up control for a transport refrigeration unit with synchronous generator power system

The present invention provides for a transport refrigeration unit of the type configured to be mounted on the front wall of a transport trailer. The transport trailer is adapted to be connected to and towed by a motorized tractor. The connected trailer and tractor define between them a predetermined envelope bounded by the tractor swing radius and the trailer front wall. The refrigeration unit includes a structural support framework configured to be attached to the front wall of the trailer. An outer cover is configured to be supported by the framework and to be within the predetermined envelope. All of the following components of the refrigeration unit are supported by the framework and contained within the outer cover: a compressor, a condenser heat exchanger, an evaporator heat exchanger, at least one fan assembly having at least one electric fan motor configured to provide air flow over one of the heat exchangers, and an integrally mounted unitary engine driven generator assembly configured to selectively produce at least one A.C. voltage at one or more frequencies. The generator assembly is capable of producing sufficient power to operate the compressor drive motor and the at least one fan motor. In a preferred embodiment, the generator assembly is a synchronous generator and the compressor drive motor and the at least one fan motor are configured to be directly coupled to the generator and to operate at a voltage and frequency produced by the synchronous generator.

Electrically powered transport refrigeration unit

A filter assembly 10 includes a housing 12 defining a filter chamber having a first region forming a contaminated air inlet chamber 30 and a second region forming a clean air outlet chamber 40. A filter element 20 extends within the housing between the inlet chamber 30 and the outlet chamber 40. A flow barrier member 60 protrudes from the housing into a cooperating groove 70 provided in the end face of the filter element 20. The flow barrier forms a labyrinth type seal blocking contaminated air from bypassing the filter element.

Filter apparatus

A gas testing apparatus of the type that directs a stream of gas to be tested through a tube containing reagent chemicals. The apparatus has a connector fitting to enable it to be connected to a closed system containing the gas to be tested, a base member having an orifice that reduces the pressure of the gas delivered to the testing tube to near atmospheric, a sliding cover that encloses the testing tube when it is positioned in the holder, and a rising stem indicator that indicates that gas flow has commenced through the tube. The apparatus also has tube seat seals for insuring that all gas entering the apparatus must flow through and not bypass the testing tube.
