A wireless terminal receives signaling information, pertaining to a reference signal transmission in at least one specifically designated sub frame, the signaling information including a list, the list including base station identities. The terminal determines, from at least one of the base station identities in the list, the time-frequency resources associated with a reference signal transmission intended for observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) measurements from a transmitting base station associated with said one base station identity. The time of arrival of a transmission from the transmitting base station, relative to reference timing, is measured. The wireless terminal can receive a command from a serving cell to start performing inter-frequency OTDOA measurement on a frequency layer containing reference signals, the frequency layer distinct from the serving frequency layer, the serving frequency layer not containing positioning reference signals. The wireless terminal can perform OTDOA measurements subsequent to the reception of the command on a carrier frequency different from the serving cell carrier frequency. A base station transmitter can jointly schedule a reference signal transmission from a plurality of base station transmitters for the purpose of OTD estimation enhancement, and transmit identical reference signals from the plurality of base station transmitters, the reference signals being identical both in the signal sequence and time-frequency resources used for transmission.

Interference control, SINR optimization and signaling enhancements to improve the performance of OTDOA measurements

A distributed antenna system includes a host unit communicatively coupled to a first service provider interface which receives a first signal from the first service provider interface; and a first remote antenna unit communicatively coupled to the host unit, the first remote antenna unit having a first antenna. A base station to which the distributed antenna system is communicatively coupled is configured with a subscriber access timing window having a minimum allowed delay and a maximum allowed delay. The distributed antenna system is configured so that a first total delay between the host unit and the first remote antenna unit is equal to or greater than the minimum allowed delay. The first antenna of the first remote antenna unit is configured to communicate the first signal to a first subscriber unit.

Second unit pre-distorts input signal to downstream signal path for non-linearities in downstream signal path using digital representation of downstream RF signal radiated from antenna as received from feedback path.

Distributed antenna system architectures

One embodiment is directed to a distributed antenna system comprising a host unit and at least one remote antenna unit that is communicatively coupled to the host unit. The host unit is configured to communicate a downstream transport signal from the host unit to the remote antenna unit. The remote antenna unit to which the downstream transport signal is communicated uses the downstream transport signal to generate a downstream radio frequency signal for radiation from an antenna associated with the remote antenna unit. The remote antenna unit is configured to communicate an upstream transport signal from the remote antenna unit to the host unit, wherein the upstream transport signal is generated from a received upstream radio frequency signal received at the remote antenna unit. The remote antenna unit is configured to perform self-interference suppression processing in an upstream signal path using, as an input thereto, a feedback signal derived from the downstream radio frequency signal radiated from the antenna. A wireless communication base station is disclosed. The base station includes a transceiver coupled to a controller configured to generate a sub-frame having first control region for a first set of users and a second control region for a second set of users that do not receive the first control region, the first control region has a fixed starting location within the sub-frame and the second control region has a starting location that is one of several possible starting locations within the sub-frame, wherein the controller is configured to cause the transceiver to transmit the sub-frame to the first and second sets of users without signaling the starting location of the second control region in the sub-frame.

Resource sharing in relay operations within wireless communication systems

A host unit (for use within a DAS having a plurality of remote units communicatively coupled to the host unit) includes a plurality of base transceiver stations and a switch. Each base transceiver station is configured to operate on a RF channel. Each base transceiver station is configure to provide a downstream baseband digital signal to the switch and to receive an upstream baseband digital signal from the switch. Each downstream and upstream baseband digital signal is a digital representation of the RF channel at baseband of the respective base transceiver station. The switch is configured to route each downstream baseband digital signal to a respective subset of the remote units as one or more downstream serial data streams and to route each upstream baseband digital signal from one or more upstream serial data streams to a respective subset of the base transceiver stations.

A method in a wireless communication terminal includes receiving configuration signaling for transmitting on a first set of radio resources wherein transmitting only on the first set of radio resources leads to a time-domain periodic repetitive pattern of transmissions from the terminal in a transmission interval that causes interference to a companion device communicably coupled to the wireless communication terminal. The terminals selects a second set of radio resources for transmitting on in the transmission interval such that transmissions on a combination of the second set of radio resources and the first set of radio resources does not lead to a periodic repetitive pattern of transmissions from the terminal in the transmission interval.

Interference mitigation in an accessory for a wireless communication device

A method and apparatus is provided for transmitting an orthogonal frequency domain multiple access (OFDMA) signal including a synchronization channel signal transmitted including a plurality of sequence elements interleaved in time and frequency. The synchronization channel signal sequence elements enable an initial acquisition and cell search method with low computational load by providing predetermined time domain symmetry for common sequence elements in OFDMA symbol periods for OFDMA symbol timing detection and frequency error detection in an OFDMA system supporting multiple system bandwidths, both synchronized and un-synchronized systems, a large cell index and an OFDMA symbol structure with both short and long cyclic prefix length.

Method and apparatus for interleaving sequence elements of an OFDMA synchronization channel

A multimode wireless communication terminal that communicates using a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT determines whether the first and second RATs are in an active state, and modifies a maximum transmit power limit of the first RAT based on a voice codec rate of a voice transmission on the second RAT when the first RAT and the second RAT are in the active state concurrently, wherein the second RAT is conducting the voice transmission in the active state. In an alternative embodiment, the limit is modified based on a transmit power status of the second RAT or on a transmission type of the first RAT.

Inter-modulation distortion reduction in multi-mode wireless communication terminal

One embodiment is directed to a method for generating and distributing wireless RF signals at a host unit in a distributed antenna system. At least a first subset of IP data from an IP network entity is routed to a first base transceiver station within the host unit, and at least a second subset of the IP data is routed to a second base transceiver station within the host unit. The IP data is baseband processed by the first and second base transceiver stations to generate a first digital representation of a first RF signal and a second digital representation of a second RF signal. The first digital representation of the first RF signal is routed to a first subset of the plurality of remote units and the second digital representation of the second RF signal is routed to a second subset of the plurality of remote units.

Method and apparatus to detect the transmission bandwidth configuration of a channel in connection with reducing interference between channels in wireless communication systems

A base station communicates a positioning reference signal (PRS) to wireless communication devices over a downlink in a wireless communication system by encoding a PRS into a first set of transmission resources, encoding other information into a second set of transmission resources, multiplexing the two sets of resources into a subframe such that the first set of resources is multiplexed into at least a portion of a first set of orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) symbols based on an identifier associated with the base station and the second set of resources is multiplexed into a second set of OFDM symbols. Upon receiving the subframe, a wireless communication device determines which set of transmission resources contains the PRS based on the identifier associated with the base station that transmitted the subframe and processes the set of resources containing the PRS to estimate timing (e.g., time of arrival) information.
