The present invention provides a functionalized composition and resulting functionalized body or prosthesis for in vitro and in vivo use comprising at least one calcium phosphate containing phase that is functionalized with a linker group comprising at least one of an organic acid molecule, a phosphonic acid, an amine, N,N-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, and 3-maleimidopropionic acid N-hydroxysuccinimide ester, and combinations thereof, and one or more of a chemical and/or a biologically active moieties, wherein the linker group provides for a reactive location for the attachment of the chemical or biologically active moiety, or both, to the calcium phosphate containing phase, and optionally including an unmodified and/or modified calcium aluminate containing phase. Methods of manufacturing a functionalized artificial prosthesis and methods of repairing a bone, vertebrae, or tissue structures are provided.

Functionalized calcium phosphate artificial bone and joint compositions and methods of use and manufacture

A method for improving the insulating character/and or penetration resistance of a surface comprising lining a surface of a lime kiln, a cement kiln, a roasting kiln, a thermal oxidizer, or a fluidized bed reactor that is subject to wear by an alkali environment and/or an alkaline environment with a refractory composition comprising a refractory aggregate consisting essentially of a calcium hexa aluminate clinker having the formula CA, wherein C is equal to calcium oxide, wherein A is equal to aluminum oxide, and wherein the hexa aluminate clinker has from zero to less than about fifty weight percent CA, and wherein greater than 98 weight percent of the calcium hexa aluminate clinker having a particle size ranging from &#x2212;20 microns to +3 millimeters, for forming a liner of the surface.

Methods of use of calcium hexa aluminate refractory linings and/or chemical barriers in high alkali or alkaline environments

The present invention provides a ceramic porous body for in-vitro and in-vivo use comprising a composition comprising a calcium aluminate (CA) containing phase and optionally at least one of an accelerator, a retarder, a surfactant, a foaming agent, a reactive alumina, water, a fiber, and a biologically active material, and combinations thereof. Ceramic compositions are provides as well as method of using the ceramic compositions and methods of manufacturing a ceramic porous body. The ceramic porous bodies of this invention may be used as artificial bones, joints, in-vitro support structures, and in-vivo support structures for cells, tissues, organs, and nerve growth and regeneration.

Artificial bone and joint compositions and methods of use and manufacture

A method for improving the insulating character/and or penetration resistance of a liner in contact with at least one of an alkali and/or alkaline environments is provided. The method comprises lining a surface that is subject to wear by an alkali environment and/or an alkaline environment with a refractory composition comprising a refractory aggregate consisting essentially of a calcium hexa aluminate clinker having the formula CA, wherein C is equal to calcium oxide, wherein A is equal to aluminum oxide, and wherein the hexa aluminate clinker has from zero to less than about fifty weight percent CA, and wherein greater than 98 weight percent of the calcium hexa aluminate clinker having a particle size ranging from &#x2212;20 microns to +3 millimeters, for forming a liner of the surface. This method improves the insulating character/and or penetration resistance of the liner.

A bone implant, and bone implant material, includes a calcium- and oxide-containing artificial graft material in a scaffold, to which melatonin and an optional cell adhesion peptide are absorbed or covalently linked.

Calcium aluminate clinker as a refractory aggregate with and without barium addition and use thereof

A method of providing a safety lining in an industrial processing container, such as an aluminum electrolytic cell, is provided comprising providing a container having an interior and a at least one primary lining in juxtaposition to said interior of said shell, and adding a calcium aluminate clinker and/or castable layer between the primary lining and the shell of the container. Further, a method of trapping one or more gasses, elements or compounds produced from industrial processes is provided using the container having the calcium aluminate layer as herein described. An electrolytic cell is disclosed comprising a shell having an interior, one or more primary linings in juxtaposition to the interior of the shell, and one or more safety linings located between the primary lining and the shell, wherein at least one of the safety linings comprises a calcium aluminate clinker and/or castable.
