A cosmetic composition for use in the treatment of hair. The cosmetic composition contains a conditioning agent and the improvement resides in the conditioning agent being a mixture of (i) a silicone polyether and (ii) an amine functional siloxane polymer. The amine functional siloxane polymer has the formula:

Hair conditioning with blended silicones

An oil-in-water emulsion is prepared with certain siloxane-oxyalkylene copolymeric surfactants which have in the emulsion a combined HLB value of between about 4-7. The oil phase includes silicone oils which are volatile and silicone oils or gums which are non-volatile, or mixtures of silicone oils and gums. What is unexpected and unusual about the invention is that conventional wisdom dictates that surfactant packages having a combined HLB value of 4-7 result in water-in-oil emulsions rather than oil-in-water emulsions.

A polish composition which includes discrete particles of a highly cross-linked macroporous hydrophobic polymer. The particles are of a first predetermined average diameter, and the polymer particles have entrapped therein and dispersed uniformly throughout an active organosilicon ingredient. The composition also includes a coacervating agent mixed with the polymer particles in an amount sufficient to cause the polymer particles to collect forming dense clusters of coacervated particles of a second predetermined average diameter, the second predetermined average diameter being substantially in excess of the first predetermined average diameter.

A polish formulation containing as components at least one member selected from the group consisting of waxes, solvents, surfactants, thickening agents, abrasives, dyes, odorants, and other ingredients normally used in making polishes, and as an improvement incorporating a composition which is the reaction product of an acid anhydride and an aminofunctional siloxane. The resulting zwitterionic aminofunctional siloxane can, if desired, be further reacted with a strong acid to provide an equilibrium of the zwitterion and a conjugate acid base pair of the zwitterion and the acid. The invention also includes a method of sheeting water on a surface with the polish, a method of making an aminofunctional siloxane zwitterionomer, and an aminofunctional zwitterionomeric siloxane compound which is the reaction product.

The resulting textiles contain less residual water and can be dried more rapidly and energy efficiently. The useful amidofunctional silicones are characterized as having an average of 40 to 600 siloxane units per molecule with 1 to 25 of the siloxane units per molecule containing an amidoalkyl substituent.

The resulting textiles contain less residual water and can be dried more rapidly and energy efficiently. The useful aminofunctional silicones are characterized as having either an average of 25 to 125 siloxane units per molecule with 4 to 15 percent of the siloxane units being aminoalkyl substituted or an average of 400 to 600 siloxane units per molecule with 1 to 15 percent of the siloxane units being aminoalkyl substituted.

Antistatic fabric softening articles comprising cationic fabric softening agents in combination with a polydiorganosiloxane component on a flexible substrate are described. The polydiorganosiloxane component may be a polydimethylsiloxane, a polyphenylmethylsiloxane, or a dimethylsiloxane-glycol copolymer. The fabric conditioning composition is releasably affixed or incorporated into a substrate from which it is transferred to fabrics in an automatic laundry dryer.

Tacky adhesives are removed from a substrate by a non-stinging, non-drying, non-staining, non-solvent process. The process uses a volatile methylsiloxane fluid to detackify the adhered adhesive, after which it is easily removed. This process is particularly useful for removing tacky adhesives from the human skin. A highly preferred volatile methylpolysiloxane fluid is octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane.

Improvement of polish formulations containing a wax and/or an abrasive and optionally at least one member selected from the group consisting of solvents, surfactants, thickening agents, detergent resistant additives, colorants, odorants, and other ingredients normally used in making polishes is disclosed by incorporating in the polish (a) a cyclodimethylsiloxane fluid, (b) a polydiorganosiloxane-polyoxyalkylene copolymer, and (c) water. Further advantages may also be achieved by the incorporation of an organic water-in-oil surfactant having an HLB value of 2-10 and/or certain silicone-glycol copolymers in the polish.
