A bicycle radar system including a camera is disclosed. The system may include a radar unit and a mobile electronic device that are in communication with one another. The radar unit may transmit radar signals, receive return signals (reflections), and process the returned radar signals to determine a location and velocity of one or more targets located in a sensor field behind a user's bicycle. The mobile electronic device may include a communication component configured to wirelessly receive content including cartographic data and one or more high-risk geographic areas and a processor configured to determine a threat level based on the targets, the high-risk geographic area and a determined geographic position.

Camera augmented bicycle radar sensor system

A bicycle radar system including a camera is disclosed. The system may include a radar unit and a bicycle computing device that are in communication with one another. The radar unit may transmit radar signals, receive return signals (reflections), and process the returned radar signals to determine a location and velocity of one or more targets located in a sensor field behind a user's bicycle. The radar unit may also include an integrated camera to selectively provide images or video of an area behind the bicycle in the camera's field of view. The radar unit may analyze the returned radar signals and images and/or video to track the location of targets located behind the bicycle. The bicycle computing device or the radar unit may also selectively activate the camera based upon the satisfaction of particular conditions.

A radar sensor system implemented using a radar sensor housing and a module electronic device configured to present situational awareness indicators associated with targets determined to be located in proximity to a bicycle. The mobile electronic device includes a position-determining component for determining a current geographic position of the bicycle, a wireless transceiver for receiving radar sensor data from a radar sensor in the radar sensor housing, a display, and a processor coupled with the position-determining component, the wireless transceiver, and the display. The processor is configured to determine one or more situational awareness indicators based on the received radar sensor data and cause the display to present location information and the one or more situational awareness indicators.

A method and apparatus for determining a bicyclist's bodily position, such as sitting or standing, while riding a bicycle. Sensors measure a force applied by the bicyclist to the pedals. The measurement data is analyzed to identify a feature, such as whether a radial force is higher or lower than a tangential force or whether a total vertical force is high or low, which is indicative of the bicyclist's bodily position. A series of changes in the bicyclist's bodily position during the ride is recorded. A series of changes in the geographic location of the bicyclist and/or a series of changes in one or more performance metrics while riding the bicycle may also be recorded. The series of changes in the bicyclist's bodily position, the geographic location, and the performance metrics may be correlated, graphically communicated in real-time or post-ride, and used to improve the bicyclist's performance.

Method and apparatus for determining whether a cyclist is sitting or standing

Techniques are described that may be implemented in a mobile electronic device providing navigation functionality to facilitate selection of a route to a destination from multiple route options. In one or more implementations, route selection information is displayed on a display of the mobile electronic device to facilitate selection of a route to a destination. The route selection information describes one or more routes to the destination and includes one or more metrics, associated with each route, that identify a characteristic of the route (e.g., a difficulty rating, topography, total climb distance, number of turns, and so on). A map may then be displayed on the display to furnish navigation information for the selected route to facilitate navigation to the destination.
