A method and composition are provided for backfilling the annular gap created as a tunnel boring machine advances through the ground. The fill material is comprised of two components that are combined and mixed together just prior to entering the annular gap. The first component is non-cement slurry consisting of a fluidized bed combustion ash such as coal ash. The second component consists of an alkali silicate such as sodium silicate. Additionally, ordinary Portland cement and/or metakaolin can be added to the grout composition.

Compositions for adsorbing sulfur-containing compounds and eliminating or reducing odors associated with the ingestion of foods or medicines causing sulfur odor, such as garlic and onions, contain a metal complex of a substrate and a ligand. The complex may be contained in a carrier, such as a silica gel, and has low solubility in an aqueous environment. The ligand of the compositions may comprise an amino acid containing sulfur, nitrogen, or a carboxylic acid, such as cystine, and the substrate is a metal which may be copper, zinc, or iron.

Beer processing and composition

Combinations of silica gel and magnesium silicate have been found to be effective agents to prevent the formation of haze in beer. Said haze, often called chill haze, is prevented by contacting the ruh beer with the combination to remove some or all of the components that react to form the haze. The spent combination is removed from the beer in the usual manner.
