A package connector apparatus of the SMT type which eliminates a discontinuous point in characteristic impedance to assure a good high frequency transfer characteristic and is compatible with another package connector apparatus of the through-hole dip type. A printed circuit board has a plurality of wiring patterns formed on each of the opposite first and second faces thereof, and a connector body is mounted on the first face of the printed circuit board with the center thereof displaced to the first face side of the printed circuit board and has first and second faces formed thereon. A plurality of contacts are mounted in a plurality of rows on and extend from the first and second faces of the connector body. The contacts extending from the first face are connected at the other end portions thereof to the wiring patterns on the first face of the printed circuit board while the other contacts extending from the second face of the connector body are connected at the other end portions thereof to the wiring patterns on the second face of the printed circuit board.

Package connector apparatus

In a no-insertion force connector assembly comprising a connector body comprising a housing for supporting a plurality of resiliently deformable contact members, a connector portion provided on a print circuit board, the connector portion having a plurality of contact terminals each positioned at a place corresponding to the contact of the contact member and at least one float member for resiliently deforming the contact members so that their contacts may each shift to a position where they are each electrically connected to the corresponding contact terminal, the contact members each comprises a plurality of first and second contact members, which are each different in the length ranging from the connecting end up to the above-described contact, the first and second contact members being alternately disposed. The float member comprises a first engaging means for first coming in contact with the first contact member for resilient deformation while shifting and a second engaging means for subsequently resiliently deforming the second contact member. Since the deformation of the first and second contact members by the float mechanism is carried out at different times, an operational force required to shift the float member can be remarkably small thus easing its operation.

No-insertion force connector assembly

A plug-in multiple-pin connector has a plug mounted on the backboard of a bookshelf-type unit and a socket mounted on the rear end of a package insertable into the bookshelf-type unit. The plug includes arrays of pins fixed to the bottom of a box-shaped insulative casing and an aligning plate having through holes through which the pins extend. The aligning plate is held in sliding contact with the inner wall surfaces of the plug. The socket has arrays of contact insertion holes defined therein and arrays of socket elements having ends each disposed in the contact insertion holes. When the socket is inserted into the plug, the socket pushes the aligning plate over the pins toward the casing bottom until the aligning plate is held against the casing bottom whereupon engaging prongs on the aligning plate are each forcibly fitted in engaging prongs in the aligning plate. When the socket is pulled out of the plug, the aligning plate is stopped against dislodgement by stoppers of the casing. The pins which are slender and close-spaced are protected against buckling and bending by the aligning plate.
