An internal discharge space is defined between an image reading section and an image forming section and the internal discharge space has an opening in a front of the image forming apparatus. Since the internal discharge space has the opening in the front of the image forming apparatus, a border between the internal discharge space and the housing is located in the front of the image forming apparatus. A light emitting section having a predetermined length along the border is provided and emits light along the predetermined length of the border, enabling users to check a light emission state from a distance. Accordingly, a state of the image forming apparatus can be indicated by the light emitting section.

A laying sheet is laid between a printing device configured to perform printing on a medium and an installation surface on which the printing device is installed. The laying sheet includes a first surface coming into contact with the installation surface and a second surface being a surface opposite to the first surface. The second surface is provided with at least one mark indicating information relating to the printing device.

An image-forming apparatus includes, in a body having a predetermined house, an image-reading unit and an image-forming unit that is configured to form an image read by the image-reading unit. A discharge portion is configured to discharge a sheet on which the image was formed onto a discharge tray. The housing includes therein a consumption article mounting portion in which a consumption article used by the image-forming unit is mounted. At least a portion of a surface of the housing at a region of the consumption article mounting portion has a light-transmissive property. When the consumption article is consumed and needs to be replenished, the operator can visually check the region of the consumption article mounting portion in the housing from the outside of the body through the transparent portion.

An optical waveguide substrate includes: a substrate; a clad disposed on a plane of the substrate and made of a transparent material; and a plurality of cores that are surrounded by the clad, extend in parallel with the plane of the substrate and are made of a transparent material having a refractive index different from a refractive index of the clad, the cores including at least a pair of cores with diameters different from each other. The cores are provided at positions where centers of sections of the cores are all positioned in a straight line.

Optical waveguide substrate and method for manufacturing optical waveguide

An optical waveguide is formed on a support member. A second cladding layer is formed on a surface of a first cladding layer so as to cover a core layer. An opening is opened at the second cladding layer-side, penetrates the second cladding layer and the core layer, and closed at the first cladding layer-side. The opening has a first surface and a second surface ranging from the opened side to the closed side. In a vertical section taken along a longitudinal direction of the core layer, a first angle between a perpendicular line drawn from an opening end of the first surface to the surface of the first cladding layer and the first surface, and a second angle between a perpendicular line drawn from an opening end of the second surface to the surface of the first cladding layer and the second surface are all acute angles.

An optical module includes a wiring board having a first electrode, an optical waveguide provided on the wiring board, an optical element having a second electrode and provided on the optical waveguide, a conductive bonding material bonding the first and second electrodes, and a fixing member that fixes the optical element to the optical waveguide. The optical waveguide includes a core layer, a first cladding layer provided on a first side of the core layer, a second cladding layer provided on a second side of the core layer opposite to the first side, and an optical path conversion mirror provided on the core layer or the second cladding layer. The optical element is optically coupled to one end of the core layer via the optical path conversion mirror, and a softening point of the fixing member is higher than a melting point of the conductive bonding material.

An optical waveguide includes a first clad layer, core layers each formed on the first clad layer, a second clad layer formed on the first clad layer to cover the core layers, grooves each provided corresponding to one of the core layers. The optical waveguide further includes inclined surfaces each disposed in the corresponding groove to face an end surface of the corresponding core layer in an extension direction of the core layers. Each inclined surface is inclined with respect to the extension direction of the core layers. The optical waveguide further includes optical path changing mirrors each formed on the corresponding inclined surface. The grooves are physically separate from each other. Each inclined surface is formed in only the first and second clad layers. Each optical path changing mirror is not in contact with the core layers and is physically separate from the core layers.

An optical waveguide mounting substrate includes a wiring substrate, and an optical waveguide mounted on the wiring substrate with an adhesive layer being interposed therebetween. The optical waveguide includes a first cladding layer, a core layer formed on a surface of the first cladding layer facing toward the wiring substrate, and a second cladding layer formed on the surface of the first cladding layer facing toward the wiring substrate so as to cover a periphery of the core layer. An opening is opened on the second cladding layer-side, penetrating the second cladding layer and the core layer, and closed on the first cladding layer-side, and a metal film is provided on an end face of the core layer in the opening. The second cladding layer faces the wiring substrate via the adhesive layer. A part of the adhesive layer is filled in the opening.

An optical waveguide device includes an optical-electrical hybrid substrate and a lens component mounted on the optical-electrical hybrid substrate. The optical-electrical hybrid substrate includes a wiring substrate and an optical waveguide on the wiring substrate. An optical path changer is arranged on an end of the optical waveguide. The optical waveguide includes an opening configured to expose a connection pad of the wiring substrate. The lens component includes a component body including a conductive member receptacle at a position corresponding to the opening of the optical waveguide. The lens component includes a conductive member partially accommodated in the conductive member receptacle and configured to connect the lens component to the connection pad.

An optical waveguide having a plurality of optical paths is formed on a substrate. A reflection mechanism is arranged above the optical waveguide. The reflection mechanism includes mirror components, each of which has an inclined reflective surface, and a mask having a plurality of openings. Laser is irradiated to the mirror components and optical path conversion inclined surfaces are formed in the plurality of optical paths at the same time by the laser reflected on the mirror components.

A light waveguide includes a first cladding layer, a groove formed in the first cladding layer, a core layer embedded in the groove, and a second cladding layer formed on the first cladding layer and the core layer. A width and thickness of one end of the core layer are larger than a width and thickness of the other end of the core layer.
