Provided is a lead-acid battery which includes: a power generating element; an electrolyte solution; a container which houses the power generating element and the electrolyte solution; and a lid member which is configured to seal the container and in which an exhaust space and a sleeve member are formed, the exhaust space communicating with an outside, an inside of the container being communicated with the exhaust space through the sleeve member. A bottom surface of the exhaust space is inclined such that a solution in the space returns to the inside of the container. The sleeve member has blocking elements arranged in a spaced-apart manner in an extending direction of the sleeve member. The inside of the container is communicated with the exhaust space through a space formed between the blocking elements.

Lead-acid battery

Correlations between a residual capacity of a secondary battery and 4 parameters of an internal resistance, temperature, a discharge current and one of an open circuit voltage and a discharge voltage of the secondary battery are previously determined and a contour map of the residual capacity and 2 of the parameters is made, for example. Then, at least 2 varying parameters selected from the 4 parameters are detected while the secondary battery is in use and collated with the correlations to estimate the residual capacity of the secondary battery.

Method of detecting residual capacity of secondary battery

A method for producing a grid for a lead storage battery has a first step, a second step and a cooling step performed between the first and second step. In the first step, lead alloy is sequentially rolled over a plurality of rolls. In the second step, the rolled sheet obtained at the first step is machined to produce a grid for a lead storage battery. In the cooling step, the rolled sheet is cooled so that (1) the surface temperature thereof is 10&deg; C. or lower at least once and (2) the total time during which the rolled sheet is exposed to an atmosphere of higher than 10&deg; C. is 10 hours or less.
