The current invention relates to an anti-fouling system for substances in contact with seawater which is constituted of the first conductive membrane that is coated on the outer side of the electric insulator mounted at the surface of the substance such as ships, marine structures in contact with seawater and is composed of thin sheets of metals having low specific resistance or metal oxide, spray-coated membrane, evaporated membrane or fused membrane, and the second conductive anti-fouling membrane having higher electric resistance than the first conductive membrane which is coated on the outer side of the above first conductive membrane and which is composed of the oxidation-resistant insoluble substance and the organic binder, and the power supply equipment that supplies direct currents flowing from the first conductive membrane through the second conductive membrane toward the electric conductor made of iron, copper or carbon located in seawater and opposite the second conductive membrane, owing to the constitution of which the prevention of rise in resistance because of consumption of the conductive membrane, the uniforming of current distribution and a high anti-fouling performance by using the low-resistant conductive membrane are achieved.

Anti-fouling system for substances in contact with seawater

A solid electrolyte fuel cell with various improved features has been described. The cell comprises many unit cells each having a structure in which there are laminated a gas-permeable oxygen electrode made from an electron-conducting material, a solid electrolyte consisting of a (CeO.sub.2).sub.1-x (CaO).sub.x (x=0.05 to 0.8) binary system or a third component-containing (CeO.sub.2).sub.1-x (CaO).sub.x (x=0.05 to 0.8) system and a gas-permeable fuel electrode made from an electron-conducting material on a gas-permeable support, many unit cells being connected to each other in series with interconnectors by subjecting end portions of the electrolytes to a masking treatment or the like.

Solid electrolyte fuel cell and method for preparing it

A process for treating an electrolytic solution to recover a concentrated solution from a dilute one in an electrolytic cell or in each of such cells divided by a permeable diaphragm into a feed chamber and a recovery chamber provided, respectively, with positive and negative electrodes or vice versa. A dilute electrolytic solution is fed to the feed chamber, and, while electrolysis is in progress between the electrode of the feed chamber and the electrode held in the recovery chamber in close proximity to, or in intimate contact with, the diaphragm, the electrolyzed solution is allowed to exude through the diaphragm into the recovery chamber, whereby the concentrated solution is extracted into the latter chamber. In the apparatus for practicing the process, either the negative or positive electrode is held in the feed chamber and the other electrode is held in the recovery chamber in close proximity to, or in intimate contact with, the diaphragm. The feed chamber is provided with an inlet for the electrolytic solution to be treated and also with an outlet for the treated solution. The recovery chamber is provided with a jet means for injecting, at the start of the electrolysis, part of the electrolytic solution to be treated against the diaprhagm and the latter electrode, a gas outlet through which the gas generated at the electrode during the electrolysis is released, and an acid outlet through which a concentrated electrolytic solution that has exuded into the recovery chamber as a result of the electrolytic treatment is taken out of the vessel.

Process for treating electrolytic solution

Process for treating electrolytic solution and apparatus therefor

In forming a protective coating of zinc on metal surface of iron, steel, copper or the like, a neutral solution containing a zinc compound is deoxidized and, making the metal immersed therein or in contact therewith the cathode of a cell, a current is passed therethrough to cause deposition of zinc on the metal surface. The metal to be protected may, for example, be in the form of a metal structure, as a ballast tank or condenser of a ship.
