An objective of the present invention is to store heat into a thermal storing material using a plurality of thermal transport mediums, in a thermal storage device utilizing natural convection of a thermal storage material resulting from temperature difference of the thermal storage material. The thermal storage device of the invention has a plurality of thermal transport mediumsandhaving different temperatures, a thermal storage materialwhich stores heat of the thermal transport mediumsandor whose heat is drawn by the thermal transport mediumsand, a thermal storage portionaccommodating the thermal storage material, and a first and a second thermal storage tanksandformed by dividing an inner space of the thermal storage portion, and a thermal exchange between the thermal transport mediumorand the thermal storage materialtakes place in the individual thermal storage tanks. In order to achieve the above-mentioned objective, the thermal storage device of the present invention is characterized by comprising: inner tanksand, which is formed in at least one of the first and the second thermal storage tanksand, and in which a side thereof opposite to a boundary between the thermal storage tanksandis open; and a thermal exchange portionandformed inside of the inner tanksand, at which thermal exchange takes place between the thermal transport mediumorand the thermal storage material

A heat storage device that includes a first heat storage material and a second heat storage material, both of which accumulate heat by heat exchange with a heat afferent medium, and a changeover device that selectively either performs or intercepts heat storage by the second heat storage material. Accordingly, if the absorption of heat by the first heat storage material has decreased, the changeover device changes flow of the second heat storage material so that heat may be extracted from the heat afferent medium by the second heat storage medium. Thus, when the heat afferent medium is a refrigerant, it is possible to supercool the refrigerant thereof. Furthermore, since heat is extracted from the heat afferent medium and is accumulated, accordingly it is possible to anticipate effective utilization thereof.

A main CPU determines whether or not there is a request for one valve driving based on an engine operating state such as an engine speed and a load factor, with reference to a control map. When it is determined that there is a request for one valve driving, it is determined whether or not there is an overlapping period between opening periods. When it is determined that there is no overlapping period, a high speed control is performed for controlling electromagnetically driven valves. When it is determined that there is no request for one valve driving, or when it is determined that there is the overlapping period, a low speed control is performed for controlling electromagnetically driven valves.

A manual cut-off system makes it possible to manually change operability of each of a plurality of passive safety devices, including air bags. The system aims at accurately maintaining operability of each of the passive safety devices until the air bags are required to operate. If a multistage switch for changing operability of each of the passive safety devices, including air bags, assumes a position for preventing operation of predetermined ones of the passive safety devices, ignition signals are prevented from being outputted to squibs corresponding to those predetermined passive safety devices. A CPU detects a state of the multistage switch based on the voltage between a common contact and a connecting portion of resistors. The thus-detected state of the multistage switch is stored in an IC memory.
