A magnesium compound represented by the formula (I):Mg(OCH)(OR)&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)where Ris CH(where m is an integer of from 3 to 10), and n is a numerical value satisfying 0&#x3c;n&#x3c;0.35; a solid catalyst component for olefin polymer using the magnesium compound; a catalyst for olefin polymer; and methods of producing olefin copolymers such as a propylene-based random copolymer and propylene-based block copolymer by using the catalyst for olefin polymer.

Magnesium compound, catalyst for olefin polymerization and method for producing olefin polymer

Provided are a method for producing polycarbonates through melt transesterification, wherein is used a polymerization catalyst comprising a phosphorus-containing basic compound and a quaternary phosphonium salt having a specific structure; and a method for producing polycarbonates, which comprises pre-polymerization to prepare polycarbonate prepolymers followed by final polymerization of said prepolymers in a solid phase or in a swollen solid phase to produce the products, polycarbonates, and in which (1) a catalyst comprising a phosphorus-containing basic compound and a quaternary phosphonium salt having a specific structure is used in the pre-polymerization and in the final polymerization, or (2) a catalyst of a tri-valent or penta-valent phosphorus compound or a nitrogen-containing organic basic compound is used in the final polymerization, or (3) the final polymerization is effected in a vapor-phase atmosphere having an oxygen concentration of not larger than 2 ppm. In those methods, high-quality polycarbonates having good appearance, high heat resistance and high hydrolysis resistance are produced extremely efficiently.

Processes for the production of polycarbonate

Provided are a propylene-ethylene block copolymer having MFR of from 0.01 to 1.0 g/10 min and comprised of (A) from 85 to 97% by weight a 25&deg; C. xylene-insoluble fraction and (B) from 3 to 15% by weight of a 25&deg; C. xylene-soluble fraction, wherein the fraction (A) is such that its stereospecificity index measured through,C-NMR is at least 98.0%, its intrinsic viscosity &lsqb;&eegr;&rsqb; falls between 2.5 and 5.5 dl/g, and its weight-average molecular weight, Mw, measured through GPC and the content, S, of the fraction having a molecular weight of at most 10,therein satisfy S (wt. %)&lE;&minus;5.3&times;10,Mw&plus;7.58, and the fraction (B) is such that its ethylene unit content measured through,C-NMR falls between 30 and 70% by weight, and its intrinsic viscosity &lsqb;&eegr;&rsqb; falls between 2.5 and 9.0 dl/g; and its blow-molded articles. The copolymer has good heat resistance, high rigidity, good impact resistance and good drawdown resistance, and its blow-molded articles have well-balanced rigidity and low-temperature barrier resistance.

A polycarbonate resin composition comprising 1 to 99% by weight of a branched polycarbonate having a branched nucleus structure derived from a branching agent represented by the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, and R.sup.1 to R.sup.6 are hydrogen atoms, alkyl groups having 1 to 5 carbon atoms or halogen atoms, respectively, and 99 to 1% by weight of a thermoplastic polyester resin. The polycarbonate resin composition is excellent in fluidability, solvent resistance and moldability.

Polycarbonate resin compositions are disclosed, comprising: (1) (A) a polycarbonate resin and (B) polyesterether elastomer, said elastomer composing of a bifunctional carboxylic acid component and a glycol component comprising polyalkylene glycol and ethylene glycol, or (2) the components (A) and (B), and (C) a rubber-like elastomer, or (3) the components (A) and (B), and (D) a polyester resin, or (4) the components (A), (B), (C) and (D). These compositions are excellent in solvent resistance and so forth, and further possess excellent physical and thermal properties characteristic of a polycarbonate resin. Thus the compositions are useful for use in production of industrial and electrical articles, such as a car bumper in the field of car industry.

The invention provides a novel resin composition of polymers of ethylene capable of giving a shaped article having outstandingly excellent mechanical properties but yet having very good processability or moldability. The resin composition is composed of 15-90% by weight of a homopolymer of ethylene and 85-10% by weight of a copolymer of ethylene and characterized by several parameters including the intrinsic viscosity, density and swelling ratio as well as satisfaction of the relationships between the melt index and the intrinsic viscosity and between the melt index and the melt tension expressed by the respective logarithmic equations. Industrially feasible processes for the preparation of such resin compositions are described in detail.
