A front loading type disk player which can play both sides of a single disk without ejecting the disk from and reinserting it into the disk player after playing one side. In addition, the disk player can play one or both sides of multiple disks without ejecting or reinserting disks. The disk player includes a movable carrier on which at least two trays are movably mounted. The carrier can be moved in a first direction so as to project from or retract into a housing of the disk player, and the trays can be moved in the first direction with respect to the carrier and a second, vertical direction e.g. perpendicular to the first direction. The trays are moved by moving a chassis, which supports them, with respect to the carrier. The trays are independently movable in the first direction and the chassis 11 is movable in the vertical direction in a stepwise fashion so that the disks stored on the trays can be properly individually placed on the turntable and removed therefrom. In addition, there is a disk player for receiving multiple disks and selectively playing the received disks. The disks are received and stored in a vertical stack in a disk receptor, and a disk to be played is placed on a turntable.

A front loading disc player plays back both sides of a loaded disc without ejecting and reloading the disc. The front loading disc player has a playback unit disposed in a player housing and having a turntable and an optical pickup, and a disc transfer mechanism for carrying a disc to be played back and transferring the disc into a playback position. The playback unit is movable by a playback means moving mechanism between a first position corresponding to one side of the disc having reached the playback position and a second position corresponding to the other side of the disc.

Front loading disc player

A disk clamping mechanism for a disk player in which centering of a supporting member on a pressing member which performs a pressing operation in cooperation with a turntable is performed accurately and inexpensively. A spherical bearing member is placed in a tapered portion which is at the center of the pressing member, and contacts a bearing reception member on a lower surface of a lift member which lifts the pressing member off a disk when the disk is not being played. The pressing member is balanced on a turntable by means of a protrusion formed in a lower surface of the pressing member at its rotational center, the protrusion fitting into a corresponding recess in the rotational center of the turntable.

Disk clamping mechanism for a disk player

A disc mounting mechanism capable of mounting first and second discs having different center hole diameters to a rotated shaft is disclosed. First and second turntables are mounted concentrically on the rotated shaft for rotation with the rotated shaft, the turntables being concentric with respect to one another with the first turntable surrounding the second turntable. A first disc locating member has first and second cylindrical portions having outer diameters corresponding to diameters of the center holes in first and second discs, with the first cylindrical portion being located between the first and second turntables and the second cylindrical portion being inside the second turntable. The first disc locating member is slidable axially with respect to the first and second turntables parallel to the rotated shaft. First and second clamping members clamp the first and second discs to the first and second turntables, respectively, the first and second clamping members being slidably mounted on the rotated shaft. The first clamping member depresses the first disc locating member to move the first cylindrical portion below a surface of the first disc when the first disc is clamped to the first turntable by the first clamping member.
