Disclosed is a substrate for a display device, wherein generation of a region which is not filled with the components of a liquid material is suppressed by simple processes during the formation of color layers by a coating method such as an inkjet method using the liquid material, thereby achieving good display quality. Also disclosed are a method for manufacturing the substrate for a display device, and a display device. The substrate for a display device comprises, on a principal surface thereof, banks formed of a resin material, and color layers arranged in a plurality of pixel regions surrounded by the banks. The color layers are formed of the liquid material, and the bank is provided with an impregnated region containing the components of the liquid material.

A method for inspecting a color filter includes a first step of disposing the color filter so that the color filter is opposed to a light source, a second step of outputting, from the light source, monochromatic light of a color corresponding to one of the colors of color layers of the color filter and entering the light into the plurality of color layers, and a third step of inspecting for display unevenness in each of the color layers with light transmitted through the color layers.

A method for producing a color filter includes forming a resinous black matrix on a substrate, and bonding a color film to the substrate and the resinous black matrix. The edge of the matrix is made thinner than an adjoining portion of the matrix to reduce or eliminate foaming and discoloration.

A color filter frame, which covers a non-display surface of an optical display section, is provided with frame color filter picture elements using at least two of three colors used for color filter picture elements, which correspond to displaying pixels. An area ratio of the frame color filter picture elements corresponding to different colors is set so as to be different from that of the color filter picture elements, which correspond to the colors used in the frame color filter picture elements. With this arrangement, it is possible to omit the step of manufacturing a black mask so as to reduce the cost; consequently, a color filter for an optical display device can be provided with an excellent appearance on a display.

A liquid crystal display apparatus including: a first substrate a plurality of pixel electrodes each provided adjacent to a corresponding one of the intersections of the plurality of signal lines and the plurality of scan lines; a second substrate having a first colored region including a plurality of colors, the first colored region corresponding to the plurality of pixel electrodes; and a liquid crystal layer being interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The apparatus further includes a second colored region provided in at least a portion of a periphery of the first colored region, the second colored region including the plurality of colors, wherein at least one of the plurality of signal lines is bent within a region overlapping the second colored region; the second colored region at least includes a plurality of first color layer segments which are colored in a first color, and a plurality of second color layer segments which are colored in a second color; and the plurality of first color layer segments are arranged so that a portion of the at least one signal line which overlaps the plurality of first color layer segments has a length greater than a length of a portion of the at least one signal line which overlaps the plurality of color layer segments other than the plurality of first color layer segments in the second colored region.
