A variable displacement compressor includes a cylinder block and a valve plate connected to the cylinder block. The cylinder block has cylinder bores and a central supporting hole. A piston is housed in each cylinder bore to compress gas. A swash plate is connected to the pistons to convert rotation of the drive shaft into reciprocation of the pistons. A cylindrical body is housed in the supporting hole. A coil spring located in the supporting hole presses the cylindrical body toward the swash plate. The cylindrical body moves axially as the swash plate is inclined. When the swash plate is minimally inclined, the valve plate receives force from the swash plate through the cylindrical body. Therefore, axial forces from the swash plate are not exerted on the drive shaft.

Variable displacement compressor

A variable displacement compressor has a crank chamber defined in a housing. A drive shaft is arranged in the housing. A piston is accommodated in the cylinder bore. A swash plate is connected to the piston to convert a rotation of the drive shaft. A retainer surface is arranged in the housing and extends substantially perpendicular to the axis of the drive shaft. A restricting mechanism is arranged between the swash plate and the retainer surface. The restricting mechanism receives the swash plate and restricts movement of the swash plate when the inclination of the swash plate decreases.

A single headed swash plate type compressor includes a swash plate and pistons reciprocatingly arranged in cylinder bores. Each piston has a body portion and a neck portion. The body portion of the piston has a cavity to reduce the weight of the piston, and the piston has ribs to reinforce the body portion. A first rib is arranged within the cavity near the front end wall of the body portion, and a second rib is arranged outside the cavity near the front end wall of the body portion.

Compressor for a vehicle air conditioner

An air-conditioning apparatus having a refrigerant circuit including a condenser, a pressure reducing device, an evaporator, and a variable displacement compressor. The air-conditioning apparatus has a torque detecting device and an external information detecting device. The torque detecting device directly or indirectly detects the reaction torque acting on the compressor, and the external information detecting device detects various external information other than the torque. The air-conditioning apparatus further has a control device for determining a target torque in accordance with the external information provided by the external information detecting device. The control device executes a feedback control program for controlling the displacement of the compressor such that the torque detected by the torque detecting device approaches the target torque.

To make it possible to provide high quality heating or warming with low environmental pollution for a low environmental pollution vehicle such as an electric vehicle or a hybrid vehicle, an automotive air-conditioning apparatus has a hot water circuit that includes a hot water heater (heat source unit), a hot water circulating pump and a heater core to thereby perform a heating operation for heating passenger compartment air wherein, an electric motor is excited under the condition that the rotation thereof is fixed to thereby generate heat in the electric motor. The generated heat is utilized as a heat source for the hot water heater. The restricting mechanism may include two electric motors which are rotated in opposite directions to each other or a lock mechanism. Also, a cooling operation for cooling the passenger compartment air may be performed by driving the compressor (heat source unit) with the electric motors, a dehumidifying operation may be performed by simultaneously effecting the heating and cooling operations, or a heat pump type heating operation may be performed by having the refrigerant circuit acting reversibly.

Automotive air-conditioning apparatus

An automobile moves at a traveling speed in accordance with the position of an acceleration pedal. A compressor is driven by the engine of the automobile. The discharge displacement of the compressor is adjusted by an external control procedure. When the position of the acceleration pedal reaches a determining value, or above at which it is determined that engine power is needed for accelerating the vehicle, the compressor is controlled such that the discharge displacement decreases. The determining value is selected by a controller in relation to the traveling speed detected by a speed sensor. The determining value increases as the speed increases.

Air-conditioning system for automobiles and its control method

A compressor includes a piston and a shoe, which contact and slide on one another. The piston includes a sliding surface, on which a solid lubricant film is formed. The shoe includes a sliding surface that slides on the first sliding surface. A soft film that mainly contains soft metal is formed on the second sliding surface. The solid lubricant that forms the solid lubricant film is a solid lubricant other than a soft metal.

Compressor

A variable displacement type swash plate compressor that prevents a drive shaft from moving axially when the difference between a crank chamber pressure and a cylinder bore pressure becomes excessive. A hinge mechanism has a support arm extending from a lug plate and a guide pin extends from a swash plate. The head portion of the guide pin fits in a guide hole formed in the support arm. A cutaway surface is formed in a part of the support arm that defines the guide hole. The cutaway surface forms a clearance in the hinge. The clearance permits the swash plate to move without pulling the drive shaft.

Variable displacement type compressor

A power transmission mechanism having a pulley rotor and a release plate. The pulley rotor is coaxial with the release plate, and power from the pulley rotor is transmitted to the release plate to rotate the pulley rotor and the release plate in the same direction. A spiral spring is located between the pulley rotor and the release plate. The spiral spring is releasably engaged with the pulley rotor. A transmission surface is provided on the pulley rotor to oppose and engage a free end of the spiral spring. The transmission surface transfers power from the pulley rotor to the release plate, and relative rotation between the pulley rotor and the release plate is permitted due to deformation of the spiral spring. A release projection causes the free end of the spiral spring to move and separate from the transmission surface in accordance with relative rotation between the pulley rotor and the release plate when the load applied to the release plate exceeds a predetermined value. Therefore, if the release plate applies an unusually strong load to the pulley rotor, it will be released from the pulley rotor.

Power transmission mechanism and its assembly method

A single-headed piston type swash-plate-operated refrigerant compressor is provided with a swash plate mounted on a rotatable drive shaft and having front and rear opposite surfaces, single headed pistons arranged on the rear side of the swash plate to reciprocate in respective cylinder bores, and front and rear shoes to be held in slide-contact with the peripheral parts of the front and rear surfaces of the swash plate to engage a tail end part of each of the single headed pistons with the swash plate in which the front and rear surfaces of the swash plate are provided with respective uppermost layers having physical surface properties different from one another. A front uppermost and a rear uppermost layer of the swash plate are formed of a sprayed coating of, for example, a copper-base material and the rear uppermost layer is coated by a solid lubricant layer containing a solid lubricant, such as molybdenum disulfide, at least in a part of the solid lubricant. The thickness of the solid lubricant layer is measured and controlled by using the surface of the front layer as a reference plane.

Auxiliary apparatus for a vehicle

A viscous fluid type heat generator, which shears viscous fluid for generating heat. The heater includes a rotor located in a heating chamber and viscous fluid accommodated in the heating chamber. The rotor is rotated integrally with a drive shaft by a vehicle engine. The rotor includes a boss for attaching the rotor to the drive shaft. The boss has a double-ringed structure for reinforcing the attachment of the boss to the drive shaft.

Heat generator

A variable displacement compressor that decreases displacement to reduce compression load without imbalancing the rotation of the drive shaft when the rotating speed of the compressor's drive shaft exceeds a predetermined limit value. The compressor includes a pressurizing passage connecting a crank chamber to a discharge chamber. A rotated guide rotates integrally with the drive shaft. The pressurizing passage is opened and closed by a valve body. Orbiting balls, which contact the valve body, are arranged about the axis of the drive shaft and the rotated guide. The balls follow the rotation of the rotated guide and orbit about the axis. The orbiting radius of the balls varies. A spring urges the balls in a direction decreasing the orbiting radius of the balls. When the rotating speed of the drive shaft exceeds the limit value, centrifugal force moves the balls against the force of the spring and increases the orbiting diameter of the balls. This moves the valve body and increases the size of the pressurizing passage.
