Tube lamp and luminaire

First pictures are coded by a variable picture rate coding, the first pictures being set at a predetermined interval, to be used as reference pictures for inter-picture prediction of an incoming moving picture and second pictures different from the first pictures are coded. The first pictures are coded by intra-picture coding or unidirectional inter-picture predictive coding, thus obtaining a first bitstream. A coding picture rate is set in accordance with motion activity of the incoming moving picture. Pictures that have remained after decimation of the second pictures are coded in accordance with the picture rate by bidirectional inter-picture predictive coding using the first pictures or locally-decoded pictures of the first pictures as the reference pictures, thus obtaining a second bitstream. The first and the second bitstreams and data indicating the picture rate are multiplexed.

Variable picture rate coding/decoding method and apparatus

First pictures as reference for inter-picture prediction of an incoming moving-picture and second pictures are coded. The first pictures are coded by intra-picture or unidirectional inter-picture predictive coding. The second pictures are coded by bidirectional inter-picture predictive coding by referring the first or their locally-decoded pictures to obtain a moving-picture bitstream. The bitstream is multiplexed with obtained motion activity information. Incoming first bitstreams are multiplexed into a bitstream at a rate lower than a total bit rate of the incoming first bitstreams. Each bitstream has first bitstreams of the first and second pictures. A code amount of the multiplexed bitstream is obtained for each reproduction period as virtual buffer occupancy, according to which a decimation rate is set on the second pictures. The second pictures bitstreams are decimated from the incoming first bitstreams according to the decimation rate to obtain second bitstreams, which are multiplexed to obtain the multiplexed bitstream.

Moving picture coding, coded-moving picture bitstream conversion and coded-moving picture bitstream multiplexing

Moving pictures are reproduced from a stored moving-picture signal and output at a set reproduction speed that is a first reproduction speed matching a rate of motion of the moving pictures or a second reproduction speed different from the first reproduction speed. The stored moving-picture signal is reproduced in accordance with the set reproduction speed to obtain first interlaced pictures. The first interlaced pictures are converted to obtain first progressive pictures. Moving pictures to be displayed are selected from the first progressive pictures per frame in accordance with the set reproduction speed to obtain second progressive pictures. Scanning lines of the second progressive pictures are decimated so that the number of remaining scanning lines of the second progressive pictures after decimation is equal to the number of scanning lines of interlaced pictures to be displayed, thus outputting second interlaced pictures. The first interlaced pictures are output when the set reproduction speed is the first reproduction speed whereas the second interlaced pictures are output when the set reproduction speed is the second reproduction speed.

Apparatus and method of reproducing moving picture at variable speed

In temporal scalable moving-picture video signal coding, an input interlaced moving-picture video signal is converted into a progressive moving-picture video signal at the same frame rate as the interlaced moving-picture video signal. The progressive moving-picture video signal is coded to produce a first bitstream. Fields of the interlaced moving-picture video signal are coded with inter-picture prediction using a locally decoded picture signal as a reference video signal, thus producing a second bitstream. The fields are different in time from frames of the progressive moving-picture video signal. The locally decoded picture signal are produced by locally decoding the progressive moving-picture video signal. The first and second bitstreams are multiplexed into an output temporal scalable moving-picture video bitstream.

Moving-picture temporal scalable coding method, coding apparatus, decoding method, decoding apparatus, and computer program therefor

In a video signal encoding and recording apparatus, a video signal is quantized into a quantization-resultant signal in response to a variable quantization scale. The quantization-resultant signal is recorded on a recording medium. The quantization scale is controlled in response to an encoding rate. The quantization scale is limited to within a range determined by a limit quantization scale. A remaining record capacity of the recording medium is measured. A remaining record time is measured. The encoding rate and the limit quantization scale are updated in response to the measured remaining record capacity and the measured remaining record time.

Video signal encoding and recording apparatus with variable transmission rate

Moving pictures are reproduced from a stored moving-picture signal and output at a set reproduction speed. The stored moving-picture signal is reproduced in accordance with the set reproduction speed to obtain first interlaced pictures. The first interlaced pictures are converted to obtain first progressive pictures. Moving pictures to be displayed are selected from the first progressive pictures per frame in accordance with the set reproduction speed to obtain second progressive pictures. Scanning lines of the second progressive pictures are decimated so that the number of remaining scanning lines of the second progressive pictures after decimation is equal to the number of scanning lines of interlaced pictures to be displayed, thus outputting second interlaced pictures. The first interlaced pictures are output when the set reproduction speed is the first reproduction speed whereas the second interlaced pictures are output when the set reproduction speed is the second reproduction speed.

A luminance signal of each of first pictures to be used as reference pictures in inter-picture predictive encoding is encoded into a progressive moving-image signal whereas color-difference signals of each first picture are encoded into first moving-image signals having scanning lines decimated to one-half of scanning lines of the progressive moving-image signal. On the contrary, a luminance signal and also color-difference signals of second pictures not to be used as reference pictures in inter-picture predictive encoding are encoded into second moving-image signals having scanning lines decimated to one-half of the scanning lines of the progressive moving-image signal. The progressive moving-image signal and the first and second moving-image signals are combined into a color moving-image bitstream.

Encoder, decoder, encoding method and decoding method for color moving image and method of transferring bitstream of color moving image

First pictures, set at a predetermined interval, to be used as reference pictures for inter-picture prediction of an incoming moving picture and second pictures different from the first pictures are coded. The first pictures are coded by intra-picture coding or unidirectional inter-picture predictive coding. The second pictures are coded by bidirectional inter-picture predictive coding using the first pictures or locally-decoded pictures of the first pictures as the reference pictures, to obtain a moving-picture bitstream. Motion activity is obtained on the incoming moving picture. The moving-picture bitstream is multiplexed with the information of motion activity. An incoming first moving-picture bitstream having bitstreams of the first and the second pictures coded as above at a first code transfer rate is converted into a second moving-picture bitstream at a second code transfer rate. Motion activity is obtained on the incoming first moving-picture bitstream. A decimation rate is set on the second pictures of the incoming first moving-picture bitstream according to at least the motion activity. The bitstreams of the second pictures are only decimated from the incoming first moving-picture bitstream at another predetermined interval according to the decimation rate. A plurality of incoming first moving-picture bitstreams are multiplexed into a moving-picture bitstream at a bit rate lower than a total bit rate of the incoming first moving-picture bitstreams. Each incoming first moving-picture bitstream has first moving-picture bitstreams of the first and the second pictures coded as above. A code amount of the multiplexed bitstream is obtained for each reproduction period as virtual buffer occupancy. A decimation rate is set on the second pictures of the incoming first moving-picture bitstreams according to the virtual buffer occupancy. The bitstreams of the second pictures are decimated from the incoming first moving-picture bitstreams at a predetermined interval according to the decimation rate, to obtain second bitstreams. The second bitstreams are multiplexed to obtain the multiplexed bitstream.

An emphasis processing is applied to an input video signal to obtain a video bitstream. An emphasis level is set to the input video signal in accordance with at least one factor among control data carried by the input video signal, a picture state detected from the input video signal and encoding conditions for the input video signal. The emphasis processing is applied to the input video signal at the emphasis level to obtain a emphasized video signal. The emphasized video signal is encoded to obtain a video bitstream. The video bitstream is multiplexed with data on the emphasis level. A video bitstream is decoded and applied a deemphasis processing. A deemphasis level is set that matches an emphasis level obtained from emphasis-level data carried by the video bitstream to which an input video signal has been encoded and emphasized at the emphasis level. The video bitstream is decoded for reproducing the video signal. The deemphasis processing is applied to the reproduced video signal at the deemphasis level to obtain a deemphasized video signal.

Video-emphasis encoding apparatus and decoding apparatus and method of video-emphasis encoding and decoding

Moving-picture bitstreams are switched at a predetermined switching timing to form a successive moving-picture bitstream. Each bitstream carries first pictures to be used as reference pictures for inter-picture prediction and second pictures other than the first pictures. Buffer occupancy indicator at decoder buffer is obtained on each picture carried by the successive moving-picture bitstream. A difference in buffer occupancy just before and just after the switching timing is obtained based on the buffer occupancy data to set a decimation rate and a decimation period on the second pictures so that the difference in buffer occupancy just before and just after the switching timing becomes small. The second pictures only are decimated from the successive moving-picture bitstream at the decimation rate within the decimation period, thus obtaining an output moving-picture bitstream having an adjusted buffer occupancy in accordance with the decimation.

Apparatus and method of switching moving-picture bitstream

Progressively scanned specific frames that exist for every predetermined period in a moving picture signal is encoded by infra-frame processing or by uni-directional prediction using other encoded specific frames and by orthogonal transform at the 2 -th (n being an integer) order in the vertical direction, to produce a first bit stream. Frames or fields of the moving picture signal other than the specific frames are predicted by using a preceding reference frame and/or an upcoming reference frame, to produce a predictive error signal for each field. The predictive error signal is encoded by orthogonal transform at the 2 -th order in the vertical direction to produce a second bit stream. The first and second bit streams are alternatively stored in a storage medium. Specific frames that exist for every predetermined period in bit streams are decoded by inverse orthogonal transform at the 2 -th order in the vertical direction and by infra-frame processing or by uni-directional prediction using other encoded specific frames, to reproduce a moving picture signal for each progressively scanned frame. A predictive error signal of frames or fields of the bit streams other than the specific frames is decoded by inverse orthogonal transform at the 2 -th order in the vertical direction. The frames or fields of the moving picture signal other than the specific frames are predicted by using a preceding reference frame and/or an upcoming reference frame, to reproduce a moving picture signal.

Apparatus and method of encoding/decoding moving picture using second encoder/decoder to transform predictive error signal for each field

A first interlaced video signal of a first number of scanning lines is converted into a second interlaced video signal of a second number of scanning lines. The first and second numbers are different from each other. The first interlaced video signal is converted into a first progressive video signal of the first number of scanning lines by interpolating the first interlaced video signal with scanning lines which have been decimated from the first interlaced video signal. The first number of scanning lines of the first progressive video signal is converted into the second number of scanning lines by re-sampling, to generate a second progressive video signal of the second number of scanning lines. The second progressive video signal is then converted into the second interlaced video signal by decimating the second number of scanning lines of the second progressive video signal. Instead of generation of the second progressive signal, one of an even and odd frame of the first progressive video signal may be converted into an even field of the second interlaced video signal and the other of the even and odd frames of the first progressive video signal may be converted into an odd field of the second interlaced video signal. The even and odd fields are combined to compose the second interlaced video signal.

Apparatus and method of moving picture format conversion

A first bit stream of moving picture that has been encoded by motion-compensated prediction is converted to a second bit stream of moving picture. A bit stream of first motion vector data is separated from the first bit stream. The first motion vector corresponds to a first block size or first accuracy of motion compensation. A portion or all of the first bit stream is decoded by motion-compensated prediction at the first blok size or the first accuracy of motion compensation using the first motion vector data to obtain a decoded picture or a decoded signal at an intermediate processing stage. A bit stream of second motion vector data is formed by motion-compensated prediction using the first motion vector data. The second motion vector data corresponds to a second block size that is different from the first block size or second accuracy of motion compensation that is different from the first accuracy of motion compensation. The decoded picture or the decoded signal is encoded by motion-compensated prediction at the second accuracy of motion compensation using the second motion vector data to obtain a third bit stream. The third bit stream and the bit stream of the second motion vector data are multiplexed to obtain the second bit stream.
