A shutter speed determining apparatus adapted for a photographing apparatus in a microscope includes a photo multiplier as photoelectric element. The photo multiplier receives light transmitted through an objective lens and transforms the light into an electric signal. The output signal from the photo multiplier is compared with a reference signal which has two different levels, high and low. When the output signal is higher than the high reference level, a first signal is produced and when it is lower than the lower reference level, a second signal is produced. When the first signal is produced, the sensitivity of the photo multiplier is decreased. On the contrary, when the second signal is produced, the sensitivity is increased up. A correction coefficient is produced in accordance with the sensitivity of the photo multiplier. An arithmetic unit determines a proper shutter speed from the output of the photo multiplier and, in addition, the output of correction coefficient output circuit.

Apparatus for stopping the motor of a motor drive mechanism in a camera is disclosed. The motor drive mechanism is of the type in which the motor is started driving by a film winding start signal and is stopped by a signal obtained at the moment of a film winding end signal being produced. Apparatus for stopping the motor according to the invention comprises a timer circuit and means for detecting an abnormality. The timer circuit normally outputs a first signal after the generation of the film winding start signal and before the generation of the film winding end signal, and also outputs a second signal after the generation of the film winding end signal. If the film winding end signal is being generating at the time of output of the first signal or if the film winding end signal has not yet been produced at the time of output of the second signal, said abnormality detecting means delivers to the motor drive mechanism a signal for stopping the motor.

In a method of measuring the specific activity of dehydrogenases by using a specimen prepared through a first procedure of causing dehydrogenases in tissue flake to be measured to be reacted with a substrate for a predetermined time and dyeing the same with tetrazolium salt and a second procedure of dyeing the protein in the flake with naphthol yellows, there is provided a third procedure of washing the enzyme-dyed flake with alcohol for a predetermined time after the first procedure. A specimen prepared through the first, second and third procedures is is microphotometered by the use of three predetermined wavelengths in the vicinity of 450 nm, 570 nm and 700 nm, and the specific activity of the dehydrogenases is measured from data obtained corresponding to the respective wavelengths.

In apparatus, such as a fluorometric microscope, for measuring two different fluorescences in a sample, the sample is irradiated by light modulated at a first frequency and having a first wavelength for causing a first fluorescence and also is irradiated by light modulated at a second frequency different from the first frequency and having a second wavelength for causing a second fluorescence. A photoelectric element is responsive to the light emitted by the sample during both fluorescences for generating an electrical signal representative of the combined intensities of the two fluorescences. From this electrical signal, a demodulator derives first and second signal components having the first and second frequencies, respectively, and having amplitudes representative of the individual intensities of the first and second fluorescences, respectively.
