In an electromagnetic relay including a pivotable armature (11) and contact springs (17) extending substantially in parallel thereto, the actuator (21) for transmitting the armature (11) movement to the contact springs (17) is coupled to the armature (11) with play. Thereby relative displacements between the actuator (21) and the contact spring (17) and the resultant frictional forces are prevented. When the relay is a bistable relay, the coupling between armature (11) and actuator (21) with play furthermore means that in the central position of the armature (11) no spring forces and no frictional forces caused by the actuator (21) are applied thereto but only the magnetic actuating forces will act on the armature (11). Thereby the risk of the armature (11) inadvertently remaining in its neutral central position is practically eliminated.

Electromagnetic relay

A polarized electromagnetic actuator device advantageous for single-stable armature operation comprises an armature pivotally supported for movement between two different angularly displaced positions about a pivot axis and an electromagnet with a pair of opposed pole members extending toward the ends of the armature on either side of the pivot axis. Disposed between the free ends of the opposite pole members is a bar-shaped three-pole magnetized permanent magnet which is magnetized to have end poles of the same polarity at the longitudinal ends and a center pole of the opposite polarity intermediate the ends, producing first and second flux paths opposing to each other and extending between the respective end portions of the permanent magnet and the adjacent end portions of the armature. The center pole is offset from the pivot axis of the armature to provide at a correspondingly offset portion therefrom between the armature and the permanent magnet a common flux path through which the first and second flux paths extend in the same direction, whereby producing a torque on the armature tending it to rotate about the pivot axis toward the one of the two angularly displaced positions.

Polarized electromagnetic actuator device

A polarized electromagnetic relay includes a flat-shaped armature pivotally supported at its center, an electromagnet with a pair of pole members extending toward the armature ends on either side of the center pivot axis, and a three-pole magnetized permanent magnet bridging between the pole members in generally parallel relation with the armature. A pair of movable contact springs extends along the lateral sides of the armature and joined at its center portion to the armature to be movable therewith. Integrally formed with each movable contact spring is a pivot arm which extends transversely from the center thereof and is fixedly secured to a relay casing. The pivot arm defines itself a resilient torsion element of limited deformability by which the armature is supported on the relay casing and is permitted to pivot about the center pivot axis for movement between the two angular positions.

Polarized electromagnetic relay

An electromagnetic relay has a casing of electrically insulative material which is divided by an insulating partition into a coil space for receiving an electromagnet and a switching space for receiving a contact assembly. An armature is magnetically coupled to the electromagnet and is operatively connected to the contact assembly for switching contact operation thereof in response to energization of the electromagnet. The partition extends along the entire length of the electromagnet without leaving any communication path between the coil space and the switching space, such that the electromagnet in the coil space can be insulatively separated from the contact assembly in the switching space within the length of the electromagnet.

A safety electromagnetic relay includes two pairs of contact sets, each pair including a load-driving contact set and a control contact set, and each contact set including a fixed contact and a movable contact spring. The two load-driving contact sets are normally-open contacts and may be connected in series and included in an external load circuit which requires safe interruption. The contact springs of each of the first and second pairs are ganged by a coupling member which is movable independently of a relay armature. The ganged pairs of contact springs are actuated by the armature in such a manner that when one of the load-driving contact sets should become welded in the closed condition, the other load-driving contact set will still open when the armature moves to the inoperative position, but the control contact set associated with the welded load-driving contact set is prevented from returning to its condition corresponding to the inoperative position of the armature. The status of the control contact set may be utilized to signalize failure of the relay. Specifically, the control contact set may be a normally-closed contact which, when the associates load-driving contact set has welded, is retained in its open condition, thereby preventing recharging of a capacitor that may be required for re-energization of the relay coil.

Safety electromagnetic relay

In an electromagnetic relay, an armature block serving to actuate contact springs includes a pair of armatures and a permanent magnet disposed therebetween to magnetize the armatures to opposite polarities. Pole ends of a yoke carrying the excitation flux created by the relay coil extend between free ends of the armatures. The armature block is suspended by means of a resilient arm integrally formed with the block at one side thereof and having its outer end fixed to a bearing portion, so that a rocking motion of the armature block is achieved by a flexing motion of the resilient arm.

Electromagnetic relay having a coil-wound bobbin with flanges at each end, a reed mounted on one flange and extending through the bobbin, fixed contacts mounted on the other flange cooperating with a free end of the reed, and a casing formed by a base and a cover. An upwardly projecting peripheral wall is provided on the base, and the lower edge of the cover engages the peripheral wall. Coil, reed and contact terminals extend through bores formed in the casing base. Grooves in the lower side of the base communicate with the bores and with the lower ends of passages which emerge at the peripheral wall. Sealant filled in the grooves simultaneously seals the terminals in the bores and the cover to the base. When the cover engages the interior of the peripheral wall, webs provided on the upper side of the casing base confine the sealant to the bores and to pockets provided at the outer side of the cover. The bobbin flange interior has a separator against which the fixed contacts abut to define the spacing between the fixed contacts. The separator also defines the spacing between the free end of the reed and a permanent magnet which cooperates with pole shoes connected to the fixed contacts.

A reed type relay comprises a frame forming a cavity and having coil terminals. A bobbin assembly containing a coil is mounted in the cavity, this assembly having a flange at each end. A pair of magnetic poles energized by a permanent magnet as well as by the coil is pressed into one of these flanges and the base end of a reed is pressed into the other. This reed is elongated and extends along the bobbin assembly with its tip located between the poles so as to be movable into engagement with each of them.

Reed relay

A flat type electromagnetic relay wherein respective members forming normally closed contacts and normally opened contacts and actuating such contacts are stacked on one another to substantially enclose electromagnet assembly of which core and coil frame are integrally formed to be flat. A balance spring urges a card operatively coupled to an armature of the assembly into non-attracted position of the armature for normal positions of the contacts with a balanced constant force with reference to attracting force to the armature and resilient force of normally opened contact spring. The assembly includes means for positioning the respective members when assembled with a single assembling direction.

An electromagnetic relay is disclosed comprising within its coil bobbin a magnetic core, the ends of which extend substantially at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the bobbin so as to form pole shoes projecting from the coil bobbin and having mutually aligned pole faces and further comprising an armature which is disposed externally of the coil bobbin between the pole shoes of the magnet core and which is pivotally mounted for rotation about one of its centroid axes, said one axis extending perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the bobbin. Contact terminals are disposed on both sides of the longitudinal axis of the coil and are positively located by embedment in a contact carrier, the coil bobbin and the contact carrier extending substantially over the entire length of the coil bobbin and being provided with engaging means for the mutual positioning and retaining of the contact carrier and coil bobbin. The contact terminals have associated therewith prelocated contact springs arranged within the relay, the forces exerted by the contact springs interacting through the armature and including bearing means for the armature provided substantially centrally of the coil between the pole shoes.
