A disc carrier is provided for carrying a disc between a magazine and a disc player. The disc carrier has a rotating device and a chuck member provided on the rotating device. A direction of the chuck member can be changed to the magazine or the disc player.

Automatic disc changer for an information recording or reproducing system

A supporting device is provided for supporting disc stockers in a case of a disc changer. Each of the disc stockers stores a plurality of discs. A lock device is mounted on each of side walls of the disc stocker. The lock device comprises a lock lever slidably mounted on the side wall and having a locking hook, and a manually operated release lever. The locking hook is provided to engage with a pin provided on the case so as to lock the disc stocker. The release lever is arranged to release the lock lever from the pin.

The present invention relates to a position detecting apparatus for and method of detecting a position of a transport unit, wherein the transport unit is used to pick up a designated disk from a disk container containing a plurality of disks to transport the disk thus picked up to a disk playback unit. The present invention accumulates the number of pulses output by an encoder of the transport unit as the unit moves upward or downward along an encoder channel. The accumulated count is used as a position count for determining the position of the transport unit between the disk container and the playback unit. A second encoder generates a pulse train corresponding to the movement of the transport unit along the second encoder channel. The second encoder channel having a plurality of recesses spaced at a wider pitch than in the encoder channel. A comparison between the level of the pulse train generated by the second encoder and the odd or even number of accumulated pulses output by the encoder indicates whether or not pulse output has been missed. If it is determined that a pulse output has been missed, the transport unit is moved to a predetermined position, and the position count is reset to a number corresponding to the predetermined position.

An automatic disc player including a housing having an elongated slot through which a disc is to be inserted into the housing, disc playback means accommodated within the housing, disc carrier means operative to convey the disc toward a predetermined position along a predetermined path within the housing after the disc is inserted through the slot in the housing, the disc carrier mechanism having a surface portion on which the a disc is to be placed, and alignment operative to move the disc correctly to the predetermined position after the disc is conveyed toward the predetermined position by the disc carrier means, wherein the alignment comprises a pair of position holding device disposed on both sides of the aforesaid predetermined path and engageable with an edge portion of the disc concurrently at at least two locations on a plane substantially parallel with the above mentioned surface portion of the disc carrier, and biasing device urging the locations to move toward the edge portion of the disc while the disc is being engaged by the position holders.

A head rotation apparatus for mounting and rotating the record/reproduce heads of a video tape recorder includes a head drum having a planar main face formed thereon in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the heads, one or more fixed heads fixedly attached to the head drum with a planar lower surface of each head abutting directly against the head drum main face, and a voltage-sensitive deflection member having a planar main face with at least one movable head fixedly mounted on a tip portion of the latter main face, with an attachment portion of the deflection member main face being held abutting directly against the planar surface of each fixed head. The fixed and movable heads are thereby accurately aligned with respect to the direction of the axis of rotation of the heads, with a very simple mechanical configuration.
