Although many conventional ribbon winding preventing methods have substantially solved a ribbon winding problem in terms of the appearance of a package, there is still a large difference between a ribbon winding layer and the other layers in, for example, unwinding performance for fast unwinding during a postprocess. In a configuration for using a traverse groove formed in a traverse drum to traverse and wind a yarn into a package the traverse drum has a plurality of continuous traverse grooves for different winding values formed therein. This configuration also has means for switching a yarn path to determine which of the plurality of continuous traverse grooves for different winding values used to traverse the yarn. Means for detecting a diameter at which ribbon winding may occur is also provided to effect such control that the winding number for the traverse drum is changed when a package diameter is close to the ribbon winding diameter.

A fluffing suppressing device for a winder for winding spun yarns capable of suppressing fluffing to a degree that may not cause troubles attributable to fluffs when the spun yarns are used as warp yarns on an air jet loom or the like. The present invention provides a fluffing suppressing device to be placed in a yarn path on the winder comprising a nozzle having an air injection holes for injecting air into a yarn passage in direction tangent to the yarn passage.

In an automatic winder wherein a winding package rotates while having surface contact with a transverse drum which is positively rotated, a method and apparatus for stopping the package concurrently with stopping of the drum. The method includes a braking of the drum when brakage of yarn being wound on the package takes place and simultaneous braking of the winding package if the brakage of the yarn takes place after the winding package has reached a predetermined diameter. The structure includes drum brake structure for braking the drum, lever actuated cam structure for sensing the diameter of the winding package, and package brake structure responsive to the diameter sensing structure for stopping the winding package on sensing of yarn brakage and package diameter over a predetermined diameter.

Structure for doffing yarn in a yarn winding machine and by a method such that when a full package of yarn is formed at each winding unit of the yarn winding machine, a driving guiding drum for the winding unit is braked while an engaging shutter plate is moved to open a cradle arm to drop the full package on an inclined guide plate for transfer to a conveyor. An empty spool container on each winding unit then supplies an empty spool to the cradle arm by means of an empty spool carrier. The whole process is controlled by cam means actuated by a one-revolution clutch.
