A machine tool () includes: a front spindle () having a front chuck (); a rear spindle () having a rear chuck (); a controller () configured to cause the rear chuck () to perform a fastening operation for fastening a work (W) fastened to the front chuck () to the rear chuck (); and a detector () configured to detect an abnormality caused by the fastening operation by the rear chuck (), based on measurement data associated with a vibration of at least one of the front chuck () and the rear chuck ().

A machine tool comprising: a first spindle; a second spindle provided on a rear headstock to face the first spindle; a barstock supply unit for supplying an elongate rod to the first spindle; and a processing means including a tool for processing the barstock, characterized in that the machine tool further comprises: a workpiece clamp device provided on the rear headstock and adapted to grip a second material comprised of the barstock that has been removed from the first spindle as an old material; and a joining means for joining opposite end portions of the second material gripped by the workpiece clamp device and of a first material gripped by the first gripping means and comprised of a barstock newly supplied by the barstock supply unit, thereby to integrate the second material and the first material into a single barstock.

Machine tool

A machine tool and a control device therefor, wherein vibration cutting of a workpiece is carried out by means of a tool and wherein, after the vibration cutting, finish-cutting is carried out for cutting a finishing allowance of the workpiece by means of the tool, without relative vibration between the workpiece and the tool, by relatively rotating the workpiece and the tool and relatively moving them in the feed direction. According to the invention, before the vibration cutting, a finishing allowance calculation means calculates a finishing allowance remaining on the workpiece after vibration cutting has been completed, and a determination means determines whether or not the finishing allowance as calculated by the finishing allowance calculation means is less than, or equal to a predetermined threshold value.

Machine tool and control device

A control device for a machine tool and a machine tool, for which settings of the number of vibrations per rotation become easy, is provided. The control device of the machine tool controls a relative rotation between a workpiece and a cutting tool and a relative reciprocal movement between the workpiece and the cutting tool in a feed direction to perform vibration cutting to the workpiece. The control device includes a control section for controlling a spindle headstock, a first tool post, and a second tool post, the workpiece W being installed on the spindle headstock, the first tool post being provided to be reciprocally movable along the feed direction with respect to the spindle headstock and installed with a first cutting tool for cutting the workpiece, and the second tool post being provided to be reciprocally movable along the feed direction with respect to the spindle headstock independently of the first tool post and installed with a second cutting tool for cutting the workpiece.

An object of the invention is to provide a liquid crystal device that uses a smectic liquid crystal and that can produce a uniform display. The liquid crystal device includes a pair of substrates, a smectic liquid crystal provided between the pair of substrates, an injection hole for injecting therethrough the smectic liquid crystal into a gap formed between the pair of substrates, a plurality of scanning electrodes arranged at right angles to the direction of injection of the smectic liquid crystal between the pair of substrates, an alignment film deposited over the plurality of scanning electrodes, and voltage applying means for applying a voltage to the plurality of scanning electrodes in sequence proceeding from a side nearest to the injection hole toward a side farthest therefrom.
