A biochemical analysis unit comprises a base plate, which has holes, and a porous adsorptive material, which is filled in each of the holes and forms each of adsorptive regions. Each of the adsorptive regions is provided with a layer, which has pores having a comparatively small mean pore diameter, and a layer, which has pores having a comparatively large mean pore diameter. In cases where the layers, which constitute each of the adsorptive regions, are connected with the layers, which constitute an adjacent adsorptive region, at one of surfaces of the base plate, the biochemical analysis unit further comprises a signal absorbing layer for absorbing a signal, which passes through layers located under the base plate and thus propagates from a certain hole toward an adjacent hole.

Biochemical analysis unit

An optical compensatory sheet producing apparatus produces an optical compensatory sheet having a liquid crystal layer. In the apparatus, a rubbing unit is supplied with resin film having a first layer including resin, and subjects the first layer to a rubbing process, so as to form an orientation layer. A dust remover removes dust from the orientation layer by use of liquid such as perfluorocarbon, to which the orientation layer is insoluble. A liquid crystal layer coater is disposed downstream from the dust remover, for coating the orientation layer with coating liquid including liquid crystalline compound, so that the liquid crystal layer is formed.

A continuous substrate and a continuous absorptive sheet are fed to a press station, and pressed continuously or intermittently. Part of the continuous absorptive sheet is charged in plural holes formed in the continuous substrate to form a biochemical analysis sheet. The biochemical analysis sheet is cut into predetermined tips to obtain a biochemical analysis unit.

In producing a biochemical analysis unit (), an adhesive agent () is applied to a base. After calcinations, the adhesive agent () forms an adhesive layer () on a wall of each holes () formed in the base (). Thereafter, an excess adhesive agent () remaining on the surface of the base () is removed. Then, a sheet of an absorptive material () is set to overlap the base (). A press roller pair () presses them to charge the absorptive material () in the holes (). Thus the absorptive material () is fixed in the hole () of the base () through the adhesive layer ().

Biochemical analysis unit and method for producing thereof

The biochemical analysis unit has a base plate and absorptive regions. The absorptive regions are surrounded by the base plate formed of materials which shield a radioactive ray and a light. In the absorptive regions are applied and absorbed specific binding substances to be bound with substances derived from a living organism that are labeled with labeling substances for generating the radioactive ray or the light. The base plate prevents the specific binding substances from penetrating in the other absorptive regions. When an analysis of data of the radioactive ray and the light is carried out, an image of the radioactive ray and the light is generated without noises.

Each coating liquid is supplied from a first end of each manifold to a second end of the manifold, and pressure loss of each coating liquid flowing through each supply slot becomes smaller from the first end to the second end so as to cancel the pressure loss of the coating liquid flowing through the manifold. Each supply slot becomes shorter from the first end to the second end. This makes the liquid amount uniform along the width of the supply slot (coating width), and thus the layers can be well formed without defects.

Process for the preparation of continuous optical compensatory sheet

A coating method that is capable of rapid curtain coating without causing 'sagging' at high flow rates exceeding 4 cm.sup.3 /cm.sec. One or more layers of a coating solution are formed on a sliding surface, and a free falling curtain of the coating solution is allowed to impinge against a continuously running web. The web has a surface roughness of at least 0.3 .mu.m, the tip of the sliding surface forms an angle of 45.degree. to 120.degree. with respect to the horizontal, and the viscosity of the coating solution is adjusted to at least 90 cps for low shear rate, with the average for all layers formed being at least 80 cps.

Curtain coating method for eliminating sagging at high flow rates

A coating method by which the speed of coating can be improved remarkably regardless of the number of polar groups on the surface of a web and irrespective of the properties of material for the web. A coating solution flowing out of a liquid injector is applied to a web supported by a coating backup roller. A high frequency signal from a master oscillator is amplified and applied to a vibrator. Ultrasonic waves generated in the vibrator are guided by a horn to be radiated to the contact line between the coating solution and the web. With the invention it is possible to prevent a coating solution from being intermittently applied to a web, and it is also possible to increase the coating limit speed, for example, by 5 to 26%. In addition, lateral stair-stepped unevenness of thickness is not produced in the coating layer.

Method of applying single polar electro-static charges to continuously

A web charging apparatus, for use in a coating system for applying various coating liquids onto a web which has been previously charged by a static field in which conductive wires form a corona discharge electrode. The diameter of the wires is in a range of 100-200 .mu.m, and the tension of the wires is not less than 1 kg. Intermediate holding frames for holding the wires are also provided. The web charging apparatus reduces the voltage irregularities in the width direction of the web and the irregular thickness of the coating liquid in the transfer direction.

Web charging apparatus
