A battery controller that performs current limitation in consideration of limitation on other components than a battery main body and the state of health of a battery is provided. A battery controller limits a battery current using allowable average current information describing current average values respectively allowed for a plurality of time windows. When the battery is deteriorated, an allowable average current obtained by subtraction in response to the state of health is used. Further, when the battery current exceeds an upper limit value stored in advance, the battery current is controlled with the upper limit reduced by the excessive amount.

A battery control device calculates at least one of an allowable current and an allowable power during charge/discharge of a battery from a no-load voltage and an internal resistance of the battery, and corrects at least one of the no-load voltage and the internal resistance according to the states of charge/discharge of the battery.

A lithium ion secondary battery comprises a case; a positive electrode foil having a current collector foil on which a positive electrode material is coated; an negative electrode film having a current collector film on which an negative electrode material is coated; a separator sandwiched between the positive electrode film and the negative electrode film, the films and the separator being arranged in multiple layers to form a group of electrodes enclosed in the case, a positive collector disc plate connected to the positive electrode side of the group of the electrodes, and an negative collector disc plate connected to the negative electrode side of the group of the electrodes. Each of the current collector foils has a non-coated portion extended along one side of the foils, a part or the entire of the non-coated portion being exposed from a side of the separator. At least one of the collector disc plate is welded to the side of the exposed non-coated portion of the group of the electrodes. The periphery of the collector disc plate has an annular portion, which is bent towards the group of electrodes.

Lithium ion secondary battery

The present invention provides a lithium-ion secondary battery which can suppress internal resistance to a small value. The lithium-ion secondary battery includes a winding group obtained by winding a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate via a separator. An end portion of a positive electrode mixture non-application portionprojects at an upper portion of the winding group, while an end portion of a negative electrode mixture non-application portion projects at a lower portion of the winding group. Current collecting disksare disposed on both end faces of the winding group so as to face them, respectively, and materials for the current collecting disks are the same materials as those for a positive electrode current collector and a negative electrode current collector. An end portion of the positive electrode mixture non-application portionis joined to a face of the current collecting diskpositioned on the side of the winding group at a plurality of joint portions on the positive electrode side, while an end portion of the negative electrode mixture non-application portion is joined to a face of the current collecting diskpositioned on the side of the winding group at a plurality of joint portions on the negative electrode side. Some of the joint portions form joint portions taking on a width expansion shape gradually expanding from a joint end portion with the positive electrode mixture non-application portiontoward the current collecting disk. A volume of the joint portionis increased.

Lithium-ion secondary battery

A lithium-ion secondary battery where a current collecting member and a foil are joined to each other securely while damage of the foil is suppressed is provided. The lithium-ion secondary battery is provided with a winding group obtained by winding a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate via a separator. An end portion of a positive electrode mixture non-application portion and an end portion of a negative electrode mixture non-application portion project at an upper portion and a lower portion of the winding group, respectively. Current collecting disksare disposed so as to face both end faces of the winding group, respectively. The current collecting diskhas projecting ridge portionson a face thereof opposite to the winding group and flat face portions facing the winding group at positions corresponding to the projecting ridge portions. The projecting ridge portionsare formed radially. The end portion of the positive electrode mixture non-application portion and the end portion of the negative electrode mixture non-application portion are caused to abut on the flat face portions of the current collecting disksand joining is performed by irradiating the projecting ridge portionswith laser beam. The flat face portions of the current collecting disksabut on the end portion of the positive electrode mixture non-application portion and the end portion of the negative electrode mixture non-application portion approximately evenly.

In a secondary battery, for providing a structure which can enable a welding operation even when a gap is formed between a current collecting plate and a winding assembly, recessed portions are formed in a positive current collecting plate. The recessed portions are disposed opposite to the winding assembly. A laser beam is irradiated to welding protrusions located between the recessed portions to melt the welding protrusions. Here, since the end surface of a positive electrode foil is uneven in height, the positive electrode foil does not contact the positive current collecting plate necessarily. The welding operation is performed by heating, melting, and dropping the welding protrusions by the use of a YAG laser under the welding condition of a laser power of 900 W and a welding speed 2 m/min.

Secondary battery and secondary battery manufacturing method

A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery that can restrict lowering of battery performance during battery preservation is provided. A negative electrode that a negative electrode mixture including graphite is applied on a rolled copper foil and a positive electrode that a positive electrode mixture including lithium manganate is applied on an aluminum foil are used. An oxide in which one element selected from Al, Si, Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Zr, Mo, W, Pb and dissimilar to elements constituting the lithium manganate is oxidized is intermixed with the lithium manganate. An intermixture amount of the oxide is set such that a molar number of the dissimilar element contained in one gram of the positive electrode active material to a molar number of lithium contained in one gram of the positive electrode active material is not more than 5/1000. Charge transfer is restricted by the oxide during battery preservation.

Positive electrode active material including a lithium transition metal complex oxide and an oxide of a dissimilar element

The present invention is to provide a non-aqueous electrolytic solution secondary battery which has high safety while maintaining high capacity and high power. A cylindrical lithium-ion battery is provided in a battery lid which is a portion of a battery container with a cleavage valve which cleaves at a predetermined pressure, and includes an electrode winding group prepared by winding a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a separator, connection portions for connecting the electrode winding group to respective electrode terminals, and non-aqueous electrolytic solution therein. As a positive electrode active material, lithium manganate where the amount of elution of manganese into the non-aqueous electrolytic solution is 5% or less based on the lithium manganate in a region where an electrode potential to metal lithium is 4.8V or more is used. As a negative electrode active material, graphite in/from which lithium ions can be occluded/released according to charging and discharging is used.

Non-aqueous electrolytic solution secondary battery

A non-aqueous electrolytic secondary battery that can prevent a drop in the power even in a large current discharge is provided. Porosity of a separator is larger than or the same as porosity of a positive electrode mixture and a porosity of a negative electrode mixture. Particularly, the porosity of the positive electrode mixture is 20% to 50%, the porosity of the negative electrode mixture is 20% to 50%, and the porosity of the separator is 20% to 60%. The separator becomes rich in the volume of the electrolytic solution that infiltrates into interfacial aperture between the separator and the negative electrode. When the large current discharge is carried out in a short time, lithium-ions are released/occluded from the electrodes and the electrolytic solution can gain the released/occluded lithium-ions with a small interfacial resistance.

Non-aqueous electrolytic solution secondary battery with electrodes having a specific thickness and porosity

A cylindrical lithium-ion battery accommodates a winding group , is structured by winding a positive electrode using lithium manganate (Li Mn O or Li Mn Al O ) having an average particle diameter of primary particles in a range of from 0.1 &mgr;m to 2 &mgr;m as a positive electrode active material and a negative electrode using amorphous carbon as a negative electrode active material via a separator, and a non-aqueous electrolytic solution within a battery container

A cylindrical lithium-ion battery with excellent safety where abnormal heat generation and remarkable deformation of a battery container do not occur even at an abnormal time is provided. When an average diameter of a winding group is A mm, an inner diameter of the battery container is B mm, a longitudinal length of the winding group except for lead pieces extending from the winding group is H mm, and the number of windings where a layer of one unit comprising a negative electrode member/separator/negative electrode member/separator is wound around a shaft core is W, a calculation value K obtained by a formula; K&equals;(B&minus;A)&times;(10000/(W&times;H) is set to 0.89 or more. When the calculation value K is 0.89 or more, a gap (B&minus;A) between an outer periphery of the winding group and an inner periphery of the battery container that enables the winding group to expand in its diameter direction at an abnormal time is properly secured.

Cylindrical lithium-ion battery

A cylindrical lithium-ion battery with high safety, high capacity and high power has a winding group having a positive electrode, a negative electrode and at least one separator, and a connecting portion for connecting to respective terminals from the winding group accommodated in a battery container, and which is provided with an inner pressure-reducing mechanism for discharging gas according to an increase in inner pressure inside the battery container. The positive electrode includes a collector whose both surfaces are applied with composing material including lithium-manganese complex oxide, the thickness of the composing material on the both surfaces of the collector is at least 210 &mgr;m and the amount of the active material per one surface of the collector is at least 240 g/m . The compounding ratio of the lithium-manganese complex oxide in the composing material is preferably at least 80 wt %.

Lithium-ion battery

A non-aqueous liquid electrolyte secondary cell capable of preventing bursting or explosion thereof even when a current breaking device or a relief valve for pressure release fails in operation thereof due to any trouble or failure thereof. The cell includes a wound-up body formed by laminatedly spirally winding up a positive electrode and a negative electrode together while interposing a separator therebetween. The wound-up body thus formed is received in a cell can. The negative electrode is constructed by forming a negative active material layer containing amorphous carbon on each of both surfaces of a negative collector. The positive electrode is constructed by forming a positive active material layer containing LixCoO.sub.2 on each of both surfaces of a positive collector. The negative electrode is electrically connected to the cell can through a negative electrode lead. The positive electrode is electrically connected to the cell lid through a positive electrode lead joined to a connection plate of the cell lid by welding.
