A disk array apparatus improves scalability, performance such as data transfer between different kinds of I/Fs, and maintainability and reliability about boards/PKs configuring the DKC and about a DKC configuration obtained by interconnecting them. The DKC in the disk array apparatus is configured by interconnecting mix PKs each including a base PK and a functional PK which is hierarchically connected to the base PK and on which individually separate functions are mounted. The base PK coexists with and is connectable to a plurality of different I/F-PKs, and includes an intra-package interconnection network for communicating between the functional PKs and with the DKC, and further has a processor interconnection network. The DKC performs a data transfer processing by using the functional PK and the base PK.

According to the present invention, in cases where a CHA function and a DKA function are mounted within a single package, a battery power supply that is used during the occurrence of power supply trouble is effectively utilized so that the supply of power can be separately controlled for each function. A CHA part and DKA part are disposed in a single control package. When trouble such as a power outage is detected, the CHA part blocks access requests from the host, and initiates end processing. When the end processing of the CHA part is completed, the package internal power supply control part stops the clock supply to the CHA part. Then, when the DKA part completes destage processing, the package internal power supply control part stops the supply of power to the DKA part. The power consumption of the package is lowered in stages in accordance with the progress of the end processing.

The storage device control unit includes: a communications interface section for carrying out communications with the information processor; a storage device interface section for carrying out communications with the storage device; a cache memory section including first memory for storage of data coming and going between the information processor and the storage device; and a connection section for connecting all together the communications interface section, the storage device interface section, and the cache memory section for communications thereamong. The connection section is provided with second memory for storage of data same as the one stored in the first memory. In magnetic disk structures having a high density, positioning errors (generally referred to as &ldquo;flutter error&rdquo;) occur due to a fluctuation of a magnetic disk. As a result, reading precision deteriorates. This is a significant problem in realizing a large capacity for a magnetic disk apparatus. This can be resolved by providing a magnetic apparatus such that a suspension which holds a slider having a magnetic head at one end and which is attached to a supporting arm at the other end is inclined so that an interval between the suspension and the magnetic disk is small on the inner rim side and is large on the outer rim side with this arrangement, the occurrence of the positioning error due to the fluctuation of a deformation of the magnetic disk is reduced, thereby enabling a high density recording of the magnetic disk.

A magnetic head slider assembly for a magnetic disk type recording/reproducing apparatus includes a slider body, a sliding pad provided on the slider body and projecting beyond a disk facing surface thereof, a thin film layer disposed at one end of the slider body, a magnetic head constituted by the thin film layer as an integral part thereof, and a core pad projection incorporating therein a core of the magnetic head and projecting beyond an adjacent disk facing surface of the slider body. The sliding pad is provided at a region of the slider body ahead of the core pad projection and prevents generation of a floating force by making use of a relative movement between the slider body and the magnetic disk. The core pad projection is not formed as a continuation of the slider body and is separated from the sliding pad a predetermined distance longitudinally of the slider body by a recess interposed therebetween whereby the core pad projection is positioned closer to the magnetic disk than a back end of the sliding pad.
