A vehicular headlamp having an inclination measuring unit mounted on portions of an aiming screw which extends rearward from reference member. The inclination measuring unit is interposed between a reference member and the rear end portion of the aiming screw, protruding rearward from the reference member. The inclination measuring unit includes a cylindrical transparent casing surrounding the aiming screw and fixed at one end to the reference member, a cylindrical base accommodated in the transparent casing in such a manner as to be rotatable when the aiming screw is turned, a ring-shaped slide member engaged threadably with a male-threaded outer cylindrical wall of the cylindrical base, the slide member being slid axially by rotation of the cylindrical base while being prevented from being turned relative to the transparent casing, a coupling member extending through an opening formed in the transparent casing into the cylindrical base to engage with tapered engaging portions of the cylindrical base and with outside surfaces of the aiming screw to couple the aiming screw with the cylindrical base, and a scale formed on the transparent casing and a reference line formed on said slide member to indicate the amount of relative displacement of the inclination member. With the invention, unlike the prior art, it is not necessary to provide a fine adjustment mechanism for adjusting the scale following initial zero-point adjustment.

A headlight for a motor vehicle having a level for adjusting the direction of light emission from the headlight in the vertical direction in which the quantities of heat transmitted to the respective regions of the casing of the level which face the bubble vial of the level are made substantially equal to each other, even if the temperature around the level changes due to the lighting or extinction of the bulb of the headlight or the like, so that the accuracy of the measurement performed with the level is maintained despite changes in the temperature around the level.

Disclosed herein is a headlight of double beam type, which comprises a lamp body having one end closed and the other end open; means defining in a given part of the closed end of the lamp body an aperture; a lens covering the open end of the lamp body; an upper beam projecting unit including a first concave light reflective integrally formed on a part of an inner surface of the closed end of the lamp body, and a first light source installed at a center portion of the first concave light reflector; and a lower beam projecting unit including a condensing lens installed in the lamp body at a position facing the aperture, a second concave light reflector detachably connected to the outside of the lamp body in a manner to face the aperture, and a second light source installed at a center portion of the second concave light reflector.

A lamp assembly capable of functioning both as a fog lamp and a cornering lamp on a motor vehicle, comprising a fixed reflector within a housing, a movable reflector positioned forwardly of the fixed reflector, and a light bulb mounted to the fixed reflector and extending forwardly therefrom through an aperture in the movable reflector. The fixed reflector reflects the light rays from the bulb in the forward direction of the lamp assembly. Considerably less in size then the fixed reflector, the movable reflector pivots about a vertical axis between a first position, where it coacts with the fixed reflector to reflect the light rays forwardly in the use of the lamp assembly as fog lamp, and a second position where the movable reflector deflects part of the light rays toward one side of the lamp assembly to enable the same to server as cornering lamp. Being mounted to the fixed reflector so as to extend forwardly therefrom through the aperture in the movable reflector with minimal clearance, the light bulb hardly intercepts the light rays that have been reflected back from the movable reflector.

A lamp assembly capable of functioning both as fog lamp and cornering lamp on a motor vehicle, comprising a fixed reflector within a housing, a movable reflector positioned forwardly of the fixed reflector, and a light bulb mounted to the fixed reflector via a bulb holder, with the bulb holder extending forwardly from the fixed reflector through an aperture in the movable reflector. The fixed reflector reflects the light rays from the bulb in the forward direction of the lamp assembly. Less in size then the fixed reflector, the movable reflector pivots about a vertical axis between a first position, where it coacts with the fixed reflector to reflect the light rays forwardly in the use of the lamp assembly as fog lamp, and a second position where the movable reflector deflects part of the light rays toward one side of the lamp assembly to enable the same to serve as cornering lamp. A vehicular lamp assembly such as a combined fog and cornering lamp has a lamp cover mounted to its housing for pivotal movement between an open position, where the lamp cover uncovers the front lens of the lamp housing, and a closed position where the lamp cover covers the front lens. For pivoting the lamp cover between the open and closed positions a lamp cover drive mechanism comprises a drive shaft protruding from the lamp housing and coupled directly to the lamp cover. The drive shaft is driven by a reversible electric drive motor via a torque limiter which permits the motor to rotate independently of the drive shaft upon jamming of the lamp cover, as by being clogged with snow. Also included is an electric control circuit which controls the drive motor for opening and closing the lamp cover in response to the actuation and deactuation of a hand switch within easy reach of the vehicle driver. The control circuit further turns on the light source of the lamp assembly only when the lamp cover is opened. The lamp cover is further provided with a two way biasing mechanism which makes it unnecessary to hold the drive motor energized throughout the travel of the lamp cover between the open and closed positions.
