A self-localization estimation unit of a self-localization estimation device determines, based on mutual relationships between the in-lane position and the absolute position including the error, whether there is lane-relevant candidate information, the lane-relevant candidate information representing that one or more in-vehicle positions are each estimated to be in which of lanes identified by the lane information; and estimates, based on a result of the determination of whether there is lane-relevant candidate information, a localization of the own vehicle corresponding to the map information.

Self-localization estimation device

A self-localization estimation device includes: a map-information acquisition unit that acquires map information including lane information for specifying lanes in which vehicles are enabled to travel; a position calculation unit that calculates an own-vehicle absolute position being an absolute position of an own vehicle in response to navigation signals received from a plurality of navigation satellites, the position calculation unit including a self-location measurement unit, a vehicle-momentum measurement unit, and dead reckoning unit; and a position estimation unit that estimates, based on the map information and the own-vehicle absolute position, a corrected own-vehicle position being a corrected position of the own vehicle. The position estimation unit estimates the corrected own-vehicle position by superimposing a reliability of the map information and a reliability of the own-vehicle absolute position on each other.

An abnormality is detected in a sensor system mounted on a vehicle and including first and second external sensors for acquiring external information and an internal sensor for acquiring internal information. An error, occurring in an internal motion physical quantity based on the internal information, is estimated based on the external information, and the error is corrected. A first external motion physical quantity based on the external information acquired by the first external sensor, a second external motion physical quantity based on the external information acquired by the second external sensor, and the internal motion physical quantity in which the error is corrected by the correction block are compared to determine an abnormality in the sensor system.

An in-vehicle apparatus changes icon appearance of gadget-associated icons according to travel impediment information associated with respective gadgets during the travel of a vehicle. The icon appearance has an improved recognizability if the icon is associated with a gadget that does not impede the travel of the vehicle, or has a worsened recognizability if the icon is associated with a gadget that impedes the travel of the vehicle. As a result, the in-vehicle apparatus allows a user to easily recognize whether a gadget-associated icon has impeding operation steps or non-impeding operation steps for the execution of the respective gadgets, thereby enabling a safer travel of the vehicle.

An in-vehicle apparatus is disclosed. The in-vehicle apparatus is configured to perform a timer operation, acquire vehicle state information, and control the timer operation of the timer means in such manner that: the in-vehicle apparatus starts the timer operation when determining based on the vehicle state information that a condition for starting the timer operation is satisfied; and the in-vehicle apparatus stops the timer operation when determining based on the vehicle state information that a condition for stopping the timer operation is satisfied.

A communication unit communicates with a cellular phone device simultaneously using a handsfree communication protocol for handsfree communication and a mail transfer protocol for mail transfer. A handsfree apparatus notifies a user of the reception of a mail if the reception of the mail by a cellular phone happens during a call, and stores an unread history of the received mail in a memory unit if a mail content display operation is not performed. Further, the handsfree apparatus notifies the user of the unread history of the received mail when Bluetooth connection link to the cellular phone having received the mail is disconnected, thereby enabling the received mail to be recognized by the user.

Handsfree apparatus

An in-vehicle handsfree apparatus performs a dialing control with a first dialing phone number, which is a phone number included in historical data of outgoing or incoming calls of a cellular phone. If the destination of the dialing with the first phone number does not answer, the handsfree apparatus performs a dialing control by using a different second phone number, if it is available from the cellular phone. The second phone number, e.g., a number of a home telephone, is registered in phone book data of the cellular phone by using the same registration name as that of the first phone number; further, the second phone number is transmitted from the cellular phone to the handsfree apparatus.

In-vehicle handsfree apparatus

An in-vehicle apparatus determines in the vicinity the presence of a portable terminal designated with a device requiring restriction on radio transmission as a device name thereof. Radio transmission from a cellular phone is thereby restricted. In contrast, when determining in the vicinity the absence of the portable terminal designated with a device requiring restriction on radio transmission, the restriction on radio transmission from the cellular phone is removed. In the event of a person with a cardiac pacemaker getting on the vehicle, if the person carries a portable terminal designated with a device requiring restriction on radio transmission as a device name, the concern of the person about a possibility that the cellular phone has a bad influence on the cardiac pacemaker can be prevented.

When telephone directory data is transmitted from a cellular phone to a vehicular handsfree apparatus, only a portion of the telephone directory data that reflects call history data of outbound calls or inbound calls is selectively transmitted, for use as the telephone directory data in the apparatus, in a manner that associates registration names used in the cellular phone with telephone numbers in the call history data transmitted from the cellular phone, instead of transmitting all of registered telephone directory data.
