A coated cutting tool, comprising: a substrate made of a cubic boron nitride-containing sintered body; and a coating layer formed on the substrate, wherein the cubic boron nitride-containing sintered body includes 65 volume % or more and 85 volume % or less of cubic boron nitride, and 15 volume % or more and 35 volume % or less of a binder phase; the cubic boron nitride is in a form of particles, the particles having an average particle size from 1.5 &#x3bc;m or more to 4.0 &#x3bc;m or less; the coating layer includes a lower layer, and an upper layer formed on the lower layer; the lower layer contains particles each having a composition represented by (TiAl)N; the lower layer has an average thickness from 0.1 &#x3bc;m or more to 1.0 &#x3bc;m or less; the particles forming the lower layer have an average particle size from 0.01 &#x3bc;m or more to 0.05 &#x3bc;m or less; the upper layer contains particles each having a composition represented by (TiAl)(CN); and the upper layer has an average thickness from 1.0 &#x3bc;m or more to 5.0 &#x3bc;m or less.

Coated cutting tool

The coated tool has a substrate and a coating layer. The coating layer contains alternating first and second laminated structures. The first laminated structure contains at least two kinds of alternating layers having different compositions. An average thickness of the layers contained in the first laminated structure is 60 nm or more and 500 nm or less. The second laminated structure contains at least two kinds of alternating layers having different compositions. An average thickness of the layers contained in the second laminated structure is 2 nm or more and less than 60 nm. The layers contained in the first laminated structure and the second laminated structure contain a compound having one or more specific metals and at least one or more of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and boron. Average thickness(es) of the first and second laminated structure is/are continuously or stepwisely increased in a direction away from the substrate.

Coated tool

A coated tool includes a substrate and a coating layer having a plurality of first laminated structures alternated with a plurality of second laminated structures. Each of the first laminated structures and each of the second laminated structures contains at least two kinds of layers having different composition and alternately laminated twice or more. An average thickness of the layers contained in the first laminated structure is between 60 nm and 500 nm, while an average thickness of the layers contained in the second laminated structure is between 2 nm and 60 nm. Each of the layers within the laminated structures include at least one metal element and at least one non-metal element selected from among carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and boron. An average thickness of the first laminated structure and/or the second laminated structure decreases with increasing distance from the substrate.

A coated cutting tool includes a substrate and a coating layer formed onto the surface of the substrate. The coating layer contains an outermost layer. The outermost layer contains NbN. The NbN contains cubic NbN and hexagonal NbN. When a peak intensity at a (200) plane of cubic NbN is made I, a peak intensity at a (101) plane of the hexagonal NbN is made I, and a sum of peak intensities at a (103) plane and a (110) plane of the hexagonal NbN is made Iin X-ray diffraction analysis, a ratio [I/(I+I)] of Ibased on a sum of Iand Iis 0.5 or more and less than 1.0, and a ratio [I/(I+I)] of Ibased on a sum of Iand Iis 0.5 or more and 1.0 or less.
