A container obtained by biaxially stretch-blow-molding a resin. Except the mouth-and-neck portion, vicinities thereof and the center of the bottom portion, the container as a whole is reduced in thickness under a highly drawing condition without accompanied by whitening, and a portion constituting the bottom valley portions has an yielding load of not smaller than 25 kg/cm at 70.degree. C. The container exhibits excellent heat resistance, pressure resistance, shock resistance as well as self-standing ability.

In a biaxially-stretch-blow-molded container there is a method of producing the same. Redraw ratio at the bottom portion is small in the secondary blow molding without employing a complex heating system but in which a secondary article obtained by subjecting a preform article to the primary blow molding is preferentially shrunk at its bottom portion, and a tertiary article or a quaternally article before being subjected to the secondary blow molding is obtained having a bottom of a flat shape or in which the central portion is recessed inwardly of the container and the periphery thereof is flattened. The bottle obtained by this method has a thickness and crystallinity in the bottom portion which are nearly the same as those of the center of the barrel and are highly oriented. The heat-resistant bottle exhibits excellent strength in the bottom portion and symmetrical panel-sinking stability in the vacuum pressure.

Biaxially-stretch-blow-molded container having excellent heat resistance

A process for producing biaxially drawn plastic bottles having excellent heat resistance and an apparatus therefor. The process comprises a step of biaxially drawing and free blow-molding the preformed article to obtain a secondary molded article thereof, a step of heating the secondary molded article by inserting it for 0.3 to 5 seconds in the infrared rays emitted from an infrared-ray radiation member that has a substantially planar radiation surface having a height larger than that of the secondary molded article in the direction of height and having a surface temperature of from 350.degree. C. to 1000.degree. C., in order to obtain a tertiary product thereof that is shrunk, and a step for blow-molding the tertiary product that is in a heated state in a metal mold to obtain a final molded article. A single metal mold is used for blow-molding to shorten the time occupied by the metal mold and to produce the bottles having excellent heat resistance maintaining high productivity.

A biaxially-stretch-blow-molded container and a method of producing the same. Two thin plate members preferably made of metallic sheets are prepared and one end surface of at least one of the members is formed so as to have an inwardly curved recess which constitutes a gap when the end surfaces of the members are linearly butted together. A laser beam is irradiated along the butted portion of the members. The gap may have various forms having a predetermined width. The two members to be butt-welded may be substituted by two end portions of a single metallic sheet having a rectangular configuration in the case where a shell portion of a can is formed by the butt-welding operation.

Butt welding method by means of laser beam

A process for manufacturing the butt-welded cans comprises the steps of applying a 0.5 to 3.5 .mu.m thick organic resin film for preventing the adhesion of melted metal particles to at least a 1-mm-wide region from the butt-weld portion edge of at least the inner surface of a steel plate can blank, and butt-welding the edges of the can blank by the use of a laser, or alternatively applying a 0.5 to 7.0.mu.m thick organic resin film, butting the edges of the can blank, and laser-welding the butted edges while a cooling device is brought into contact with the butted edges from the inner side of each can. In this case, it is preferred that the coating material having high thermal decomposition resistance is applied to the whole outer surface of each can, and the weld portion is then butt-welded by means of a CO.sub.2 laser. The aforesaid coating material have the high resistance to thermal decomposition and is the material in which the temperature at which a thermogravimetric weight reduction ratio of the coating material reaches 50% is 470.degree. C. or more, i.e., the coating material comprising a phenolic resin or fluoride resin, or a coating material containing a polyorganosiloxane, metallic oxide or metallic powder.

A method and apparatus for guiding the opposed edges of sheet material into substantially abutting edge-to-edge relationship with one another and thereafter welding said edges by a high energy welding source to form a seam. The invention enables the continuous high speed butt welding of the sheet material to form cylindrical bodies. The apparatus includes three elements, a mandrel, a mandrel holder and tube holders. Sheet material is fed to around said mandrel and advanced by a tube holder with an edge of two opposite edges of said sheet material being in intimate contact with a basis plane of said mandrel holder. Another edges is slided into contact with above mentioned edge of sheet material making abutting relationship after passing through the basis plane of said mandrel holder. These abutting edges pass a high energy zone of a welder and butt welded to make a tube.

Disclosed is a welded can having at least the inner face side of a weld seam covered with a composite film of a thermoplastic resin, wherein the thermoplastic resin composite film comprises (I) an innermost layer, located on the inner face side of the can, of a thermoplastic polyester having a molecularly oriented crystal and comprising a dibasic acid component content of at least 90 mole % of terephthalic acid and a diol component containing at least 90 mole % of ethylene glycol, said innermost layer (I) overlayer (II) a seam-contacting layer, located on the seam side, of a thermoplastic copolyester containing in the chain molecule a dibasic acid component containing 40 to 95 mole % of terephthalic acid and 0 to 40 mole % of isophthalic acid and a diol component containing ethylene glycol and butane diol in a total amount of 65 to 100 mole % at a molar ratio of from 5/95 and 80/20 or a blend of such copolyesters, and the composite film comprising the layers (I) and (II) has an elasticity modulus of 5 to 220 kg/mm.sup.2 at a temperature lower by 20.degree. C. than the softening temperature of the resin of the layer (II).

There is provided a method of making a welded can body having a mash seam weld which includes a heat affected zone extending continuously in the longitudinal direction thereof and is formed with no pitting. The weld is formed by mash seam welding a lapped portion of a can body preform made of a surface treated steel sheet while allowing an alternating current to flow through the lapped portion via a water-cooled elongated electrode and a water-cooled rotary electrode. The alternating current has a crest factor satisfying an expression 1.5.ltoreq.Ip/Ie.ltoreq.2.0, where Ie and Ip designate an effective value and a peak value, respectively, of the alternating current.

Method of making welded can body

A device for feeding electric power to a roll-like revolving electrode in an electrical resistance welding machine includes a feeder rotor provided in a shaft formed integrally with a revolving electrode and a feeder plate extending in the moving direction of the revolving electrode and disposed in contact with the periphery of the feeder rotor. The periphery of the feeder rotor is electrically coupled to the electrode surface of the revolving electrode, and the feeder plate is connected to a power supply. Consequently, the electrode surface of the revolving electrode is electrically coupled to the power supply.

The apparatus has two roll-like revolving electrodes and an elongate electrode, and the lap portions of two can bodies are disposed respectively between the two revolving electrodes and the elongate electrode. An alternating current flowing through these lap portions is supplied by coupling the two revolving electrodes to an ac power supply, or by dividing the elongate electrode into two electrically insulated portions and coupling these portions to the power supply.
