Disclosure of information is controlled selectively depending on users such that a plurality of users having different roles bearing no inclusive relation with one another can access the same area. Content is divided into a plurality of areas. For each of the areas obtained by division, secret keys (encryption/decryption keys in symmetric-key cryptography) are generated. The generated keys are encrypted using public keys in public-key cryptography, which are set in advance for the users depending on their respective roles. In the case where the content is to be disclosed to a plurality of users having different roles, the encryption of secret keys is performed separately for each user. An IC card automated transaction terminal is provided to operate in conjunction with an IC card capable of storing a plurality of different balances relating to commercial transactions. For example, the IC card can provide separate storage for electronic money information and bonus point information. IC card reading/writing means are provided in the terminal for reading and writing such information stored in said IC card along with input means for inputting transacted sum information and information storage means for storing electronic money information equivalent to transacted sum information. In another embodiment, small sum and large sum balances can be separately stored on the IC card, with only the large sum balance being locked and requiring a security code to carry out a transaction.

Premium point services offered by different retailers require each user to possess a plurality of cards for dealing with different applications. An electronic pocketbook system made of a display device and an IC card is provided to store diverse kinds of application information such as amount information and point information into a single IC card. Portions of the application information to be displayed are stored in a predetermined format into a predetermined area inside the IC card. This allows the same program of the display device to display various kinds of application information successively using a common program, and without having to an application specific program.
