An exhaust gas recirculation control system calculates a target EGR ratio value based upon engine operating parameters and maintains the EGR ratio at the target EGR ratio value. Each time the vehicle travels a predetermined distance, the control system calculates an actual EGR ratio value and corrects the target EGR ratio value to reduce a deviation between the target and actual EGR ratio values to zero.

Exhaust gas recirculation system for diesel engine

In an internal combustion engine having at its intake section a two-barrel type carburetor including a primary fuel supply system having a primary main fuel supply line and a primary slow fuel supply line and a secondary fuel supply system having a secondary main fuel supply line and a secondary step fuel supply line, and at its exhaust section a three-way catalytic converter, there is provided an improved closed loop type air-fuel ratio control system which controls not only the amount of air fed to the primary main and slow fuel supply lines but also the amount of air fed to the secondary main and step fuel supply lines in accordance with the concentration of a selected component of the engine exhaust gas. A switching valve is associated with both the primary slow fuel supply line and the secondary main or step fuel supply line so as to alter the course of the air introduction into the primary slow fuel supply line or into the secondary main or step fuel supply line in accordance with the engine load.

Closed loop type air-fuel ratio control system of an internal combustion

An internal combustion engine carburetor is disclosed which includes an induction passage provided therein with venturi means and controlled by throttle valve means, a fuel bowl connected through a main solenoid valve to a main fuel passage for discharging fuel through a main nozzle opening into the venturi means, a fuel pump connected through an auxiliary solenoid valve to an auxiliary fuel passage into which an air bleed opens for discharging fuel through a sonic nozzle opening into the induction passage downstream of the throttle valve means, and fast-idle mechanism for forcing the throttle valve means to open to a predetermined angle from its closed position. A control circuit is provided for providing a control signal corrected based on the density of atmospheric air, which corresponds to the rate of air flow through the induction passage for controlling the main and auxiliary solenoid valves. The control circuit is adapted to drive the fast-idle mechanism at low engine temperatures.

Electronic controlled carburetor

An air-fuel ratio control system is disclosed for use with a carburettor including an air-fuel induction passage provided therein with a throttle valve. The system comprises a control circuit responsive to various engine operating factors for deriving an engine operating condition and providing a pulse signal having a constant period and a pulse width corresponding to the derived engine operating condition, fuel supply means for supplying fuel, a fuel passage connected at its one end to the fuel supply means and at the other end to the induction passage downstream of the throttle valve, and a control valve provided in the fuel passage, the control valve responsive to the pulse signal from the control circuit for controlling the flow of fluid passing therethrough thereby providing an optimum air-fuel ratio corresponding to the engine operating condition.

Air-fuel ratio control system

An air-fuel ratio control system is disclosed for controlling the air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to an engine on one side of stoichiometric. The system comprises a sensor for detecting the arrival of the inlet air-fuel ratio at its stoichiometric level and fuel supply means for supplying a controlled amount of fuel to the intake system of the engine. Control means is associated with the sensor for providing first and second control signals to the fuel supply means so as to control the amount of fuel supplied therethrough. The first control signal occurs to cause the inlet air-fuel ratio to vary toward the stoichiometric level and the second signal occurs for a predetermined period of time after the inlet air-fuel ratio arrives at the stoichiometric level to cause the inlet air-fuel ratio to vary away from the stoichiometric level.

Air-fuel ratio control system for internal combustion engines

A Karman type air flow sensor element is disposed within a duct slidably mounted between members defining an annular space. The annular space causes the intake air to increase its velocity as it approaches the inner periphery of the annular space thus creating a pressure differential zone. By moving the duct so that the inlet and outlet are exposed to different high and low pressures respectively the pressure differential across said the inlet and outlet of the duct can be controlled to vary the fraction of the total intake air inducted therethrough.

A fast idle device for a carburetor is disclosed such that an optimum throttle valve opening (idle opening) is calculated through a calculating circuit based on various engine operating conditions, after the engine is started, and is controlled repeatedly, until the engine is fully warmed up, in such a way that the throttle valve movement urged by a return spring in the direction to close the valve is released steppedly by a ratchet mechanism. The fast idle device of the present invention comprises various sensors, a calculating circuit, and an electromagnetic ratchet mechanism, in addition to a conventional throttle valve.

A feedback control system using an oxygen-sensitive air/fuel ratio sensor which is disposed in induction passage for an IC engine downstream of a fuel supply device with the provision of an ignition means to burn a fractional portion of an air-fuel mixture in the induction passage such that the oxygen-sensitive sensor is exposed to a resultant combustion gas. The sensor is of the concentration cell type having a layer of solid electrolyte such as zirconia provided with two electrode layers, and constant DC current is supplied to this sensor to cause migration of oxygen ions through the solid electrolyte layer, whereby this sensor exhibits a slope output characteristic and can detect air/fuel ratios either above or below a stoichiometric ratio or exhibits an on-off characteristic and can detect the stoichiometric ratio depending on the intensity and flow direction of the current. Owing to reduced overall length of the closed-loop, this control system can accomplish correction of a deviated mixing ratio in a shortened period of time.

A fuel injection valve for an automotive vehicle is disclosed which is provided with a saw-toothed solenoid in place of an ordinary solenoid. In spite of a small size, the fuel injection valve thus improved can control fuel injection timing and period electromagnetically at a high speed under a high fuel pressure. The valve element can be controlled by a current signal flowing through the solenoid coil, so that the valve element is opened or closed against the force of valve spring.

Fuel injection valve for an automotive vehicle

A fuel injector of the invention comprises a plurality of parallel, threadlike tubes for admitting electrostatically charged fuel and an accelerator electrode biased at the opposite potential to that applied to a fuel charging electrode. The fuel admitted through the parallel tubes is atomized at the outlet port of the tubes as a result of electrostatic repulsion between charged particles, and attracted and accelerated by an electrode spaced from the outlet port of the tubes. A control electrode may be provided spaced from the accelerator electrode adjacent to the outlet port of the tubes and biased at a potential with respect to the accelerator electrode much lower than the potential applied across the accelerator and fuel-charging electrodes. By varying the potential at the control electrode, the fuel quantity delivered can effectively be controlled.

Electrostatic fuel injector

A pressure sensor and sensing method, wherein the sensor comprises a pressure responsive element movable corresponding to a pressure to be measured and a means for detecting movement of the pressure responsive element. The movement detecting element comprises two parts of switch means movable to and fro with respect to each other, and a substantially constant oscillation is applied to one part so that movement of the pressure responsive element alters a threshold value which is applied to the substantially constant oscillation in order to produce a varying pulse signal.

Pressure sensor and sensing method

A system for feedback control of air/fuel ratio in an internal combustion engine operated with a nonstoichiometric air-fuel mixture. The control system includes two oxygen-sensitive air/fuel ratio sensors which are of the concentration cell type having a solid electrolyte layer provided with two electrode layers and both disposed in an exhaust passage substantially at the same section. The first sensor is supplied with a constant DC current to cause migration of oxygen ions through the solid electrolyte layer and exhibits a slope output characteristic when a lean mixture or a rich mixture is supplied to the engine, depending on the direction of flow of the current. The second sensor exhibits on-off type output characteristic and can discriminate between a lean mixture and a rich mixture. A control circuit to produce a fuel feed rate control signal based on the output of the first sensor includes a discriminating means for ascertaining whether the output of the first sensor is truly attributed to the slope output characteristic with reference to the output of the second sensor.

System for feedback control of air/fuel ratio in internal combustion

A compensating member is provided in a conventional automotive engine carburetor, which is used with an electronic closed loop control system, in order to finely adjust a rate of air flow being delivered to a fuel passage extending between a discharge nozzle and a float bowl, and thereby performing a fine adjustment of an air-fuel mixture ratio to effectively reduce noxious components in exhaust gases.
