An offset perfecting press is disclosed wherein a web is printed on both sides while traveling between a pair of blanket cylinders. In the event of a web break downstream of the blanket cylinders, the web is conventionally cut off immediately upstream of the blanket cylinders. Thereupon, on the downstream side, the web will stick to either of the printing cylinders due to the adhesiveness of the ink thereon, tending to be wound about the cylinder all the way down to the point of break. In order to prevent this a pair of opposed web cut blades are disposed. Intermediate the printing cylinders and a downstream guide roller. Upon web break a pressure roller is actuated into rolling engagement with the guide roller via the web, urging the web forwardly by inertial rotation of the guide roller. Thus tensioned between either of the printing cylinders and the guide roller, the web is held tightly against either of the opposed blades thereby to be cut off.

An inking roller has a pair of journals coaxially coupled to its opposite ends, the journals being supported by frame means for both rotation and axial reciprocation with the roller. The journals are detachable from the roller by being moved axially away therefrom, as when the roller becomes worn or flawed and needs replacement. A pair of guide rails are removably mounted to the frame means so as to extend in parallel spaced relationship to each other. On being freed from the journals, the roller rests on the guide rails for rolling thereon between a mount/dismount position, where the roller is mounted to and dismounted from the frame means via the journals, and a load/unload position where the roller is loaded into and unloaded from the press. A drive lever coupled to one of the journals to impart linear reciprocation to the roller is deprived of its fulcrum to permit that journal to travel axially away from the roller for disconnection.

Apparatus for replacement of an inking roller or the like in a rotary

An ink fountain apparatus in an ink supply system for use with a printing press. The apparatus comprises an ink reservoir provided with an ink fountain, an ink steering/collecting section formed in a zone of the ink reservoir and in which a screw adapted to stir, transfer and collect ink is rotatively mounted therein, an ink delivery section for delivering ink into the ink reservoir, and a pump installed between the ink steering/collecting section and the ink delivery section. A suction port of the pump is directly connected to an ink collecting zone of the ink steering/collecting section where ink is collected through the action of the screw.

The known offset rotary press of the type that at least a pair of printing cylinders consisting of a plate cylinder and a blanket cylinder are disposed in juxtaposition adjacent to each other, and that the adjacent plate and blanket cylinders are rotated at the same revolution speed in the opposite directions to each other through gears having the same pitch circle diameter and the same number of teeth, is improved in that in the case where one of the pair of printing cylinders having a slightly larger finished cylinder diameter than that of another printing cylinder is positioned upstream on the side of power transmission with respect to the printing cylinder having the smaller finished cylinder diameter, an intermediate gear connected to a drive source is rotatably mounted on a cylinder shaft of the printing cylinder having the larger finished cylinder diameter on which a first gear is fixedly mounted also, and in that the intermediate gear and the first gear are respectively meshed with a second gear fixedly mounted on a cylinder shaft of the printing cylinder having the smaller finished cylinder diameter.
