A communication apparatus is disclosed, which comprises a base station module and an access point module for providing wireless connectivity to a communication network to at least one mobile communication device; an interface for coupling the base station module and the access point module for performing at least one of: a channel restriction operation; a power restriction operation; an intelligent uplink scheduling operation; a carrier frequency reselection Cucumber; and a traffic steering operation; whereby alleviating an interference arising due to coexistence of the base station module and the access point module.

A communication system is disclosed comprising an X2 gateway, a number of base stations, and a mobile device. The base stations are able to establish X2 connections directly with each other or via the X2 gateway. Various procedures are disclosed to determine how X2 connections should be established based on compatibility of the respective base stations with the X2 gateway.

A source Home Node B (HNB) of a mobile communication system transmits, to a Home Node B-Gateway (HNB-GW) of the mobile communication system, a Direct Transfer message including a Target Radio Network Controller (RNC)-ID and a Target Cell ID. A mobile station receives a channel reconfiguration message from the source HNB, synchronizes with the target HNB, and transmits a channel reconfiguration complete message to the target HNB. The HNB-GW constructs a RANAP relocation request message using the Target RNC-ID. The HNB-GW transmits the RANAP relocation request message to the target HNB, and detects a relocation from the source HNB to the target HNB, after receiving the Direct Transfer message from the source HNB.

A communication system in which at least one of the first and second base station modules of a dual mode access point is configured to provide information, as regards to its operating mode, to the other base station module. In one embodiment, the operating mode information is provided via an internal interface coupling the first and second base station modules.

A gateway apparatus is disposed between base stations and a core network, and includes receiving and transmitting units. The receiving units receives in response to the start of a location change of a mobile station from a cell managed by a base station to another cell, a location change message including a transfer destination identifier indicating a base station control apparatus associated with another base station managing the another cell. The transmitting unit determines whether to transmit the message to one of the base stations or to the core network based on whether the transfer destination identifier matches an identifier of a base station control apparatus, and accordingly transmits the message.

A communication node provides information relating to a location of a user device in a communication system. The communication node associates with a relay node for providing the user device with access to the communication system via a cell operated by the relay node. The communication node obtains an indication of whether or not the cell is configured as a mobile cell and provides, when the cell is configured as a mobile cell, information indicating that the cell is configured as a mobile cell to a further communication node.

A base station of a communications network includes a transceiver circuit configured to transmit signals in a first Radio Access Node (RAN) and signals in a second RAN, and a controller configured to determine if signals in the second RAN should be stopped based on a load of the first RAN.

The present invention provides a communication node for a communication network. The communication node includes means for identifying that paging is required for a mobile communication device, means for obtaining information identifying at least one cell in which said mobile communication device has been located previously and for obtaining further information relating to at least one of movement of the mobile communication device between cells and a time when said mobile communication device was located in said at least one cell, means for defining a set comprising at least one cell in which to seek said mobile communication device, based on said information and said further information, and means for initiating transmission of a respective paging message for said mobile communication device in each cell of said set.

A communication system includes a communication network including a plurality of communication cells, a plurality of mobile communication devices each operable to connect into the communication network via at least one of the communication cells, and a communication apparatus for providing at least one of the communication cells. The communication apparatus includes first and second base station functions each operable to acquire a congestion status and access control information for the other base station.
