The present invention provides a catalytic conversion-type sensor that detects a detection target gas by detecting a conversion gas produced through a reaction, the catalytic conversion-type sensor including: a gas flow path that allows the detection target gas to flow down; and a conversion portion that is connected to the gas flow path, the conversion portion including, on a side partitioned by a diffusion means that allows the detection target gas to naturally diffuse, a heated catalyst portion that produces a conversion gas by causing the detection target gas to come into contact with a heated catalyst and react with the heated catalyst, and a sensor element portion that is capable of detecting the conversion gas produced through the reaction.

An image observation device which is so arranged that a user can look an image in through an ocular window thereof with the device being fitted to the user's head for example, that the image changes in linkage with movement of the user's head, and that unnecessary change of the image is prevented during the observation. The image observation device includes an eye access detector for detecting whether the user's eyes approach thereto or not, and includes, a controller by the operation of which the image changes in linkage with movement of the user's head only if the eye access detector detects that the user's eyes approach thereto, and by the operation of which the image does not change in linkage with movement of the user's head if the eye access detector does not detect that the user's eyes approach thereto.

Image observation apparatus

An image display apparatus is provided for providing a virtual image to an observer. The image display apparatus includes an image display unit, an eyepiece optical system, and a container. The image display unit is for providing modulated light corresponding to the virtual image. The eyepiece optical system is for directing the modulated light from the image display unit to one or both of the observer's eyes. The container is for supporting the image display unit on an edge portion of the eyepiece optical assembly.

Screen image observing device and method

An image display apparatus has a display section for displaying an image, an eyepiece optical system, and a transparent plate-shaped member for holding the eyepiece optical system. The image display apparatus is used with the eyepiece optical system placed in front of a viewer's eyes and with the plate-shaped member facing the eyes. The image display apparatus directs light from the display section through the eyepiece optical system to the eyes so that the viewer is presented with a virtual image of the image displayed on the display section and simultaneously permits light from the outside world to be transmitted through the plate-shaped member so as to be directed to the eyes so that the viewer is presented with an image of the outside world. The boundary surface between the eyepiece optical system and the plate-shaped member is so arranged as not to reflect light from the outside world incident thereon at angles of incidence greater than the Brewster angle toward the eyes.

An image display apparatus is provided with a screen having retro-reflectivity, a liquid crystal display device displaying an image, a projection optical system projecting the light of the liquid crystal display device onto the screen, and a beam magnifier located close to the screen and magnifying the light beams, included in the projected light, expressing individual points of the image. The beam magnifier is composed of a diffraction optical element or a diffusing plate, and magnifies each light beam so that the magnification is larger in the direction of the horizontal field of view than in the direction of the vertical field of view. When images having parallax are provided for the left and right eyes, an upper limit of the magnification of the light beams is set in consideration of the distance between the left and right eyes to prevent cross-talk.

An optical deflection device for deflecting light by a mirror mounted on the tip of a rod-like torsion spring which oscillates at near resonance frequency. An optical deflection device which produces a large amplitude by exerting control to avoid variation in the natural oscillation frequency of the torsion spring (including mirror) regardless of temperature fluctuation.

A display apparatus of the present invention includes scanning mirrors for scanning light emitted from a light source, a position sensor diode for detecting whether scanning by the scanning mirrors is normal or abnormal, a light intercepting shutter for intercepting light when the position sensor diode detects that the scanning is abnormal.
