To provide a compound having an effect for preventing photolysis of a liquid crystal composition, and having a high solubility in the liquid crystal composition, a liquid crystal composition containing the compound, and a liquid crystal display device including the composition. The compound is represented by formula (1), the liquid crystal composition contains the compound, and the liquid crystal display device includes the composition.  In formula (1), R, R, Rand Rare independently hydrogen or alkyl having 1 to 4 carbons; ring Aand ring Aare independently 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene or the like; Z, Zand Zare independently a single bond, alkylene or the like; and n is 0, 1 or 2.

The invention provides a liquid crystal compound that has a large negative dielectric anisotropy (&#x394;&#x2208;) and also has at least one of characteristics such as the stability to heat, light or the like, a high clearing point, a suitable refractive index anisotropy (&#x394;n), a large negative dielectric anisotropy (&#x394;&#x2208;) and an excellent compatibility with other liquid crystal compounds. An excellent effect in which especially the value of the dielectric anisotropy (&#x394;&#x2208;) is increased negatively is achieved by use of the compound having two moieties of and thus the effect is utilized.
