A valve opening-closing timing control device includes a solenoid valve having a solenoid mechanism provided with a spool having an oil path groove formed in an outer face thereof, and a sleeve for housing the spool to reciprocate and slide. A wall surface of the sleeve has a first port communicating with a first hydraulic oil supply section, a second port communicating with a second hydraulic oil supply section, and a third port communicating with the side of a hydraulic oil supply source. The spool is driven and set to a first position for supplying hydraulic oil from the hydraulic oil supply source to the first port, a second position for supplying the hydraulic oil from the hydraulic oil supply source to the second port, and a third position outside an area between the first and second positions to prevent supply of hydraulic oil from the first and second ports.

A valve timing control apparatus includes a partitioning portion in a driven-side rotary member for partitioning the fluid pressure chamber into an advance angle chamber and a retard angle chamber, a restricting member in the driven-side rotary member and projectable and retractable relative to a driving-side rotary member, a restricting recess in the driving-side rotary member and restricting a relative rotational phase to a predetermined range in association with projection of the restricting member therein, a locking member disposed in the driven-side rotary member and projectable and retractable relative to the driving-side rotary member, a locking recess formed in the driving-side rotary member and locking the relative rotational phase to the predetermined phase in association with projection of the locking member therein, a communication passage formed between the restricting member and the locking member, and an urging passage for feeding fluid for projecting the restricting member into the restricting recess.

A valve timing control device includes: a driving side rotational member; a driven side rotational member; a fluid pressure chamber; a partition portion; a lock member; a lock groove; and a lock release, wherein the lock release passage is in communication with the lock groove, and the rotational member formed with the accommodation portion is provided with an atmosphere open passage which is in communication with the lock groove when the relative rotational phase is at a specific phase.

A valve timing control apparatus includes a locking mechanism that can minimize the accumulation of foreign material in a concave engagement part, can minimize the penetration of foreign material to the sliding parts of a locking member, and can reduce the sliding resistance of the locking member. A locking mechanism is provided with a sliding groove provided to an outer rotor; a locking member for sliding along the sliding groove; and a concave engagement part that is provided to the inner rotor, for engaging with the locking member in a state in which the phase of relative rotation is a lock phase, and has an inlet port for introducing hydraulic fluid. Flow channels for hydraulic fluid are provided to at least one of the sliding groove and the locking member, are formed along the sliding direction of the locking member, and are communicatingly connected to the concave engagement part.

A variable valve timing system includes a relative rotation controlling mechanism restricting relative rotation of a housing member and a rotor member at the intermediate lock phase between the most advanced angle phase and the most retarded angle phase. An auxiliary controlling mechanism actuated in response to the operation fluid to be supplied to and discharged from a fluid pressure circuit allows the relative rotation of the housing member and the rotor member under the unlock condition and restricts the rotation of the rotor member to the retarded angle side or to the advanced angle side relative to the housing member at a set phase between the most retarded angle phase or the most advanced angle phase and the intermediate lock phase under the lock condition.

Variable valve timing system

A valve timing control device for controlling the opening/closing timing of the intake valve or exhaust valve of an internal combustion engine is disclosed, comprising a valve opening/closing rotary shaft rotatably assembled with the cylinder head of the internal combustion engine; a rotation transmitting member mounted around the rotary shaft so as to rotate relative thereto within a predetermined range for transmitting a rotating power from a crank shaft; vanes provided on the rotary shaft or the rotation transmitting member; a fluid chamber formed between the rotary shaft and the rotation transmitting member and halved into advancing chambers and delaying chambers by the vanes; first fluid passages for feeding and discharging a fluid to and from the advancing chambers; second fluid passages for feeding and discharging the fluid to and from the delaying chambers; a refuge hole formed in the rotation transmitting member or the rotary shaft and accommodating therein a lock pin spring-biased toward the rotary shaft or the rotation transmitting member; a fitting hole formed in the rotary shaft or the rotation transmitting member for fitting therein the head portion of the lock pin when the rotary shaft and the rotation transmitting member are synchronized in predetermined relative phases; and a third passage for feeding and discharging the fluid to and from the fitting hole, wherein the first fluid passage or the second fluid passage is made to communicate with the refuge hole so that the first fluid passage or the second fluid passage and the third fluid passage can communicate through the refuge hole in the state where the lock pin comes out of the fitting hole and into the refuge hole.

A valve timing control device includes a rotor fixed on a cam shaft, a housing member rotatably mounted on the cam shaft so as to surround the rotor, a chamber defined between the housing member and the rotor and having a pair of circumferentially opposed walls, a vane mounted on the rotor and extended outwardly therefrom in the radial direction into the chambers so as to divide each of chambers into a first pressure chamber and a second pressure chamber, a fluid supplying device for supplying fluid under pressure to at least a selected one of the first pressure chamber and the second pressure chamber, and a concave portion formed on the radially outer ends of the opposed walls of the chamber.

A variable valve timing device includes a rotation shaft and a rotation transmitting member rotatably mounted thereon. The device operates between a locked condition and an unlocked condition, wherein a locking pin is in and out of a receiving bore formed in the rotation shaft, respectively. For transferring the locking condition to the unlocking condition, oil is supplied to a bottom of the receiving bore via an independent fluid passage.

Variable valve timing device

A variable valve timing system includes helical splines to effect a relative rotation between an input member and an output member. The output member drives an intake and an exhaust valve against the urging force of a valve spring. The valve spring gives an undesired torque to the output member. The helical splines have backlash and the undesired torque causes a hitting noise. Therefore, a guide depression filled with viscous fluid is formed in front of the input member and a projection located and moved in the depression is formed in front of the output member. The depression and the projection with the viscous fluid form a damper to absorb the undesired torque.
