On the other hand, wire electrodes (,) fixed to a grid frame (,) are positioned relative to stripes of a phosphor screen (,) and are then placed on and fixed to a supporting frame (,) placed in a front case (,) using stud pins (,). According to such a configuration, when the front case and the rear case are bonded and are thus fixed, the position shift between the phosphor screen (,) and the wire electrodes (,) can be suppressed within a tolerance. An image display apparatus includes a vacuum container whose inside is kept under vacuum, a fluorescent layer, an electron emission source having an electron source which is arranged in a matrix and electrodes having a function for focusing and deflecting electron beams, and the fluorescent layer is illuminated by the electron beam. The average electric field strength between the fluorescent layer and the electrodes is set to be stronger than that between the electrodes and the electron emission source. Consequently, electron beams can be deflected in predetermined directions, and electron beams that land on the fluorescent layer can be focused to be a predetermined size. As a result, electron beams can be landed exactly at predetermined positions of the fluorescent layer having an arrangement whose number is more than the number of the electron emission source, and an image display apparatus having high resolution can be provided.

An optical pattern detecting apparatus has a ball lens (2), a light emitting device such as LED (3) and a light receptor such as photodiode (4), the latter two (3, 4) being disposed side-by-side with their optical axis substantially in parallel so that light from the light emitting device (3) passes is converged by the ball lens (2) onto barcode mark (7) and light reflected from said barcode mark (7) is guided by the same ball lens (2) to the light receptor (4); and by use of the ball lens, the apparatus can stably detect the barcode mark even at inclination of the apparatus to the surface of the barcode mark.

A curved surface formation polishing apparatus for rotationally symmetrical objects such as optical lenses, mirrors, etc., which is so arranged that, by relatively displacing a processing tool and a workpiece in a direction generally intersecting at right angles with the rotary axis of the processing tool mounted on a rotating spindle so as to follow a predetermined curved surface cross section shape, grinding loci at a processing point of the workpiece formed by an abrasive grain cutting edge of the processing tool will overlap each other by crossing as the processing proceeds, thus achieving a favorable finished surface.
