In accordance with an embodiment, a printer comprises a housing section configured to accommodate a roll body obtained by winding an elongated image receiving medium in a roll shape; a conveyance section configured to pull out the image receiving medium from the roll body to convey it; a printing section configured to perform printing on the image receiving medium pulled out of the roll body by the conveyance section; and a buffer device arranged at the bottom of the housing section on an upstream side of the conveyance section along a direction in which the image receiving medium is pulled out by the conveyance direction so as to apply a pressing force in a direction towards the roll body to the image receiving medium pulled out of the roll body.

A paper discharging apparatus comprises: a first conveying unit; a second conveying unit which includes a pinch roller and a feeding roller that are arranged closer to the downstream side; a movable mechanism which moves a surface part between a first position that the surface part is not contacted with the pinch roller and a second position that the surface part is contacted with the pinch roller through the paper so as to push the pinch roller; a control unit which moves the surface part to the second position, clamps the paper by the pinch roller and the surface part, and conveys the paper, thereby bending the paper, and which moves the surface part to the first position and clamps the paper by the pinch roller and the feeding roller, and rotates the feeding roller, thereby discharging the paper from the conveyance path.

According to one embodiment, a dual purpose printer has a housing, a printing medium supporting section, a first printing section, and a second printing section. The housing has a discharge port and an entrance port. The printing medium supporting section is arranged inside the housing, and rotatably supports a rolled printing medium. The first printing section is configured to print on a top surface of a first continuous sheet printing medium drawn from the rolled printing medium supported on the printing medium supporting section, and to print on a second printing medium carried in through the entrance port. The second printing section is arranged inside the housing, and is configured to print on the bottom surface of the first continuous sheet printing medium.

According to one embodiment, a medium detecting method includes conveying a medium in a first direction along a first conveying path, and allowing the medium conveyed from the first conveying path to enter a second conveying path arranged with the first conveying path so that the medium is conveyed in a second direction opposite to the first direction. The method also includes allowing light emitting elements of first and second detecting sensors to irradiate light such that the light intersects the first and second conveying paths, and detecting the presence or absence of the medium based on whether or not light receiving elements of the first and second detecting sensors receive the light.

A paper discharging apparatus contains a movable mechanism and a control unit. The movable mechanism moves a surface part between a first position that the surface part is not contacted with a pinch roller and a second position that the surface part is contacted with the pinch roller through a paper so as to push the pinch roller; the control unit moves the surface part to the second position, clamps the paper by the pinch roller and the surface part, and conveys the paper, thereby bending the paper, and which moves the surface part to the first position and clamps the paper by the pinch roller and a feeding roller, and rotates the feeding roller, thereby discharging the paper from the conveyance path.

According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes a first sensor, a second sensor, a first head, a first head pressurizing force adjusting device, a second head, a second head pressurizing force adjusting device, and a control unit. The first and second sensors detect a recording medium. The first head forms an image on a first surface of the recording medium and the second head forms an image on a second surface of the recording medium. The first head pressurizing force adjusting device adjusts a pressurizing force of the first head to the first platen and the second head pressurizing force adjusting device adjusts a pressurizing force of the second head to the second platen. The control unit controls the first head pressurizing force adjusting device and the second head pressurizing force adjusting device based on outputs of the first and second sensors.

First and second sensors are disposed downstream and upstream of a conveyance path, respectively. A first head is disposed between the first sensor and the second sensor opposite to a first platen with the conveyance path interposed between the first head and the first platen. The first head pressurizing force adjusting device adjusts a pressurizing force of the first head to the first platen. A second head is disposed between the first head and the second sensor opposite to a second platen with the conveyance path interposed between the second head and the second platen. The second head pressurizing force adjusting device adjusts a pressurizing force of the second head to the second platen. The control unit controls the second head pressurizing force adjusting device to separate the second head from the second platen if a tailing end of the recording medium escapes from the second sensor.

A thermal printer includes a first thermal head, a first platen roller, first biasing means, a second thermal head, a second platen roller, and second biasing means. The first thermal head, the first platen roller, the first biasing means are in contact with a heat-sensitive layer of thermal recording paper. The second thermal head, the second platen roller, and the second biasing means are in contact with a heat-sensitive layer of the thermal recording paper. The second thermal head is arranged on the upstream side of the first thermal head in a paper feed direction. A paper feed speed of the first platen roller to the thermal recording paper is larger than a paper feed speed of the second platen roller. The first platen roller is in contact with the thermal recording paper while being more slippery compared with the second platen roller.
