A speaker array device includes a first speaker array and a second speaker array. The first speaker array has plural first speaker units arranged in a first surface and output a first sound. The second speaker array has plural second speaker units arranged in a second surface that is different from the first surface and output a second sound. When the second speaker array and the first speaker array are installed in a room having a ceiling, the second speaker array is installed in such a manner that a normal direction to the second surface is match with a direction in which the second sound emitted from the second speaker array reaches, only indirectly, through reflection or diffraction, a sound receiving point or that the normal direction to the second surface is match with a direction in which the second sound reaches the sound receiving point with a predetermined sound volume.

Speaker array apparatus

An array speaker apparatus includes an array speaker in which plural speaker units are arranged in a single body, a sound source localization adding unit which generates left and right audio signals by performing localization processing for adding sound characteristics to audio signals of a front-left channel and a front-right channel on the basis of head transfer functions, and a sound emitting direction control unit which distributes the left and right audio signals to one or plural speaker units of the array speaker, and controls timing with which the speaker units output the audio signals so that a left sound emitted from the array speaker forms the same sound wavefront formed by a sound emitted from one of virtual point sound sources and that a right sound emitted from the array speaker forms the same sound wavefront formed by a sound emitted from the other of the virtual point sound sources.

A sound field controlling device for supplying audio signals to a plurality of speakers provided in a space to form a sound field in the space, includes a measuring unit which measures levels of indirect sounds, which are outputted from the speakers, reflected from a wall surface of the space, and reach a listening position respectively, a reverberation applying unit which generates a reverberation simulation signal for reinforcing the indirect sounds on the basis of the audio signals, and a reverberation balance adjusting unit which controls the level of the reverberation simulation signal and supplies the controlled reverberation simulation signal to the corresponding speakers on the basis of the levels of the indirect sounds outputted from the speakers so that respective synthesized levels of the indirect sounds and the reverberation simulation signal are balanced between the speakers.

A signal processing device includes a filter that is set to frequency characteristics in which a dip existing in an intermediate and high frequency range is smoothed in the frequency characteristics of a virtual characteristic applying filter for applying transfer characteristics of a space transfer path to a sound signal, the space transfer path extending from a virtually set orientation of a sound image to an ear of a listener, an equalizer that forms the dip by cutting a part of the intermediate and high frequency range, and an adjusting unit that adjusts at least a central frequency of the dip. An input signal is passed through the filter and the equalizer.

Signal processing device and sound image orientation apparatus

Optimum power control also known as OPC is performed while changing a recording speed and a recording laser power level. Signal recorded through the optimum power control is reproduced for measurement of reproduced signal quality. Recording speed achieving a recording laser power level that can provide reproduced signal quality falling within a predetermined acceptable range is displayed as a recommendable recording speed so that a user can set the displayed speed as a recording speed for use in actual recording.

Optimum-recording-speed determining method, recording-speed setting method and recording method for optical disk

An optical disk has a recording surface which is divided in the radial direction of the optical disk into a plurality of volumes. Each volume consists of a lead-in area, a program area and a lead-out area. Each of the volumes has a recording capacity which is not constant and has absolute position information recorded therein. The absolute position information consists of time information starting from a common initial value. The lead-in area, program area and lead-out area of the respective volumes is adapted to have information of the Compact Disc format recorded therein and adapted to have volume number information corresponding to the volume number thereof recorded in a predetermined position of the area. In one aspect of the invention, a part or all of the volumes has a higher recording density than a standard recording density determined by the Compact Disc format and absolute address information continuously increments from an initial value without overlapping among the respective volumes and address information is independent from the absolute address information. In another aspect of the invention, address information and absolute address information recorded in the first volume are within a range determined by the Compact Disc format and address information and absolute address information recorded in the second and subsequent volumes are larger than a value determined by the Compact Disc format.

Optical disk having plurality of volumes, recording device and reproduction device for same

Recording surface of an optical disk is segmented radially into a plurality of volumes each including a lead-in area, program area and lead-out area. In each of the volumes, information indicating presence of a succeeding volume is recorded in a main channel of the program or lead-out area. Dedicated player can receive the information indicating presence of a succeeding volume during reproduction of the first volume and thus is allowed to access the second volume. By contrast, non-dedicated or ordinary CD-ROM players have no capability to read the information indicating presence of a succeeding volume and thus is only allowed to reproduce the first volume without knowing the presence of the succeeding volume.

Optical disk, optical disk reproducing device and optical disk reproduction system

Data buffer stores therein data of a plurality of packets supplied from an optional external source on a packet-by-packet basis. When a predetermined quantity of data have been stored in the data buffer, a system controller successively reads out from the data buffer the data for N (an optional integral number of two or more) packets from among the supplied packets. Encoder converts, into a recording format of an optical disc, the data for the N packets successively read out from the data buffer and outputs the converted data after adding thereto packet-linking information. Then, the converted data for the N packets with the packet-linking information are successively recorded onto the optical disc. Thus, even for long data of a plurality of packets, this arrangement can reduce a necessary number of track seek operations to thereby greatly reduce a necessary recording time.

Optical disc device capable of recording information data as a plurality

Each data read out from an optical disk is written into a RAM in response to a reproduced clock signal and then read out from the RAM in response to a reference clock signal. A decoder circuit detects a Run-out block in a data link period of the read-out data. Once such a Run-out block is detected, a timing resetting circuit compulsorily moves write and read pointers to the RAM to middle address and first address locations, respectively, of the RAM, so as to restore a distance between the two pointers to a predetermined basic distance corresponding to substantially half the total number of addresses of the RAM. With this arrangement, it is possible to avoid an overflow or underflow in the RAM that would result from the clock reproduction getting out of phase-locking by a phase locked loop during optical scanning in a data link period.
