In a color sensor unit for use in a display device, a color measuring device for use in a display device, a display system and a display calibration method of the invention, a CPU is operable to calculate a luminance value or a chromaticity value substantially equivalent to that to be obtained by a measuring device having a light receiving angle smaller than a light receiving angle of a sensor, by correcting a luminance value or a chromaticity value measured by the sensor based on gradation information from the display device.

According to color measuring apparatus and method and a liquid crystal display system S of the present invention, intensity signals obtained by receiving radiant light from a liquid crystal color displayat a first viewing angle and corresponding to at least three mutually different spectral responsivities are converted into information on a plurality of primary color intensities of the liquid crystal color display, and the intensity signals by the first viewing angle are corrected to signal intensities by a second viewing angle. Thus, these color measuring apparatus and method are capable of a more accurate measurement even at a dark gradation. The liquid crystal display system can more accurately calibrate a display surfaceof the liquid crystal color displayeven at a dark gradation.

A light measuring apparatus capable of measuring ambient light, flash light from a flash source directly connected to the light measuring apparatus and flash light from a flash source that is remote. A photoelectric sensor can convert the light into electrical signals when an operator starts a light measurement cycle. A flash light emission signal can be generated to a flash source. The computer circuit can process the light signals to determine the specific mode of operation of the light measuring process, and based upon that particular mode of operation to appropriately calculate measurement values.
