A media storage is adapted to store a plate-shaped medium. A media drive is operable to write data in the medium. A label printer is operable to print on the medium. A media conveyer is operable to convey the medium between the media storage, the media drive and the label printer. A casing defines an interior space of the media processor. A plate-shaped frame divides the interior space into a first space located in a rear upper portion of the interior space, a second space located in a rear lower portion of the interior space and a front space located in a front portion of the interior space. The media drive is disposed in the first space. The label printer is disposed in the second space. The media storage and the media conveyer are disposed in the front space.

A liquid ejecting apparatus is provided. A transport mechanism is that transports a sheet in a first direction. A liquid ejecting head is configured to eject liquid onto the sheet. The transport mechanism includes: a plurality of transport belts that transports the sheet and arranged in a second direction which is orthogonal to the first direction, each of the transport belts extending in the first direction and having a transport surface with which the transported sheet is brought into contact; a concave portion disposed between the transport belts adjacent to each other in the second direction; and a plurality of suction ports that sucks the sheet and disposed on both sides of the concave portion in the second direction. A distance between the liquid ejecting head and a suction surface of each of the suction ports is longer than a distance between the liquid ejecting head and the transport surface. A distance between the liquid ejecting head and a bottom of the concave portion is longer than the distance between the liquid ejecting head and the suction surface.

A disc transporting mechanism includes a gripping mechanism having a plurality of gripping members configured to grip a disc, a transport arm provided with the gripping mechanism, and a moving mechanism configured to move up and down the transport arm. A media processor such as a CD publisher functions as a media library. The CD publisher takes out media from a media storage unit, sets the media in a media drive, performs writing of data, and stores the media in a writing-completed media storage unit if there is a data writing request and/or an additional data writing request. The publisher takes out the target media from the media storage unit on the basis of details stored in the storage unit and sets the media in the media drive if there is a data reference request and a data output request. Data of the media can be referenced from the outside, and media in which data writing has been completed can be used as a media library. When final additional writing is completed or there is a discharge command of the media, printing of a label related to data written on a label surface of the media is collectively performed, and then the media is discharged.

A media processor, such as an optical disk publisher, is capable of efficiently discarding media such as a defective CD without using a manual discarding process. At the time of media publication of an optical disk publisher, blank mediastored in a supply-side stackeris taken out by a media conveying mechanismand is conveyed to a media drive, and predetermined data is written into the blank media. Printing is performed on printing surfaces of the media into which data has been normally written by means of a label printer. The published media is stored in a storage-side stacker. Defective media on which a failure in writing has occurred is disposed of so as not to be readable by mechanically destroying a recording surface of the defective media by means of a media disposal mechanism while moving the defective media in a state where the defective media is mounted on a media trayof a printer. A disc picking device having an engaging member for engaging a disc includes: a contact portion having a contact face for contacting an upper face of the disc; an arm which movably supports the engaging member and has the contact portion; and a moving mechanism moving the arm in a contacting direction for contacting the upper face of the disc, wherein the moving mechanism supports the arm such that the contact portion can be moved in a direction opposite to the contacting direction.

A media processor is capable of keeping disposal history of media regardless of whether the media is externally created media or not. In the media processor, while used media set in a created media storage unit is being conveyed to a media disposal mechanism by a media conveying mechanism, a label surface image printed on a label surface of the media is read by a line sensor. Subsequently, the media is disposed of by the media disposal mechanism such that reading and writing are not possible. In a storage unit, the read image printed on the label surface is stored as media disposal history.

An ink jet printer including an optical detector attached to a carriage on which a head chip is mounted, and one or more detected parts that can be detected by the detector formed on sides of ink cartridges placed in an ink cartridge holder. Each of the detected parts may be implemented as a right-angle prism. The one or more detected parts are operable to detect the presence or absence of ink and the corresponding ink cartridge being placed, among other features. Since the common optical detector and the one or more detected parts can detect a plurality of pieces of information, the ink jet printer is extremely advantageous for cost reduction and miniaturization as compared with the case where dedicated detection mechanisms are provided in a one-to-one correspondence with pieces of information to be detected as in a related art.

A support mechanism has an installation frame fixed to the cover , a support frame for supporting a platen roller and stationary blade , and a compression spring attached to the installation frame and support frame . The support frame can move relative to the installation frame pivotally around engaging pin of the support frame , and slidably relative to the pivot of the cover . A positioning pin and a positioning notch are provided on the main frame for positioning the support frame to a position at which the platen roller and stationary blade are aligned to and positioned opposite the thermal head and movable blade respectively.

Printer having a medium transportation path open/close mechanism

A winding shaft, for use in a printer allows a wound recording paper to be easily removed therefrom. The winding shaft includes a shaft main body, a winding portion and a support-removing member. The winding portion, which sandwiches the shaft main body, winds the recording paper therearound. The shaft main body includes a pair of support-removing members, which respectively project from the shaft main body. The two support-removing members are respectively supported on the two side portions of the shaft main body in such a manner that they can be freely rotated about their respective support shafts. A tension-coiled spring is bridgingly disposed between the two support-removing members, so that the two support-removing members remain in standing positions when no external force is applied to them. If the recording paper is lightly rotated in a direction opposite to the winding direction of the recording paper, then the two support-removing members are brought down in the same direction due to an external force applied thereto from the innermost peripheral recording paper. As a result, the innermost peripheral recording paper is loosened, that is, is caused to float loosely from the outer peripheral surface of the shaft main body, thereby enabling the removal of the recording paper from the winding shaft.
