A method for providing directions to a blind user of a smart device is described. The method includes detecting, by at least two sensors and in response to a selection of a find mode of the smart device, image data corresponding to a surrounding environment of the smart device and positioning data corresponding to a positioning of the smart device. The method also includes receiving, by an input device, the desired object or the desired location. The method also includes determining, by a processor, the initial location of the smart device based on the image data, the positioning data and map data stored in a memory of the smart device. The method also includes providing, by the output device, the directions to the desired object based on the initial location of the smart device and the map data.

Smart necklace with stereo vision and onboard processing

A wearable smart device includes a sensor configured to detect data corresponding to a detected object, a memory configured to store a contact list including contact information for a plurality of contact devices and to store stored data corresponding to a plurality of stored objects, an antenna and a processor. The processor is programmed to determine whether the detected object can be identified by comparing the detected data to the stored data, to transmit the detected data to at least one of the plurality of contact devices via the antenna in response to not being able to identify the detected object by comparing the detected data to the stored data and to receive an identification of the detected object from the at least one of the plurality of contact devices. The wearable smart device also includes an output unit to output the identification of the detected object.

Wearable smart device and method for redundant object identification

A wearable smart device for alerting a user of an upcoming turn or object. The wearable smart device includes a camera configured to detect image data. The wearable smart device also includes a processor coupled to the camera and configured to determine a current speed of the wearable smart device based on the image data. The processor is also configured to determine when a navigation instruction is to be output based on the current speed. The wearable smart device also includes an output unit coupled to the processor and configured to output the navigation instruction.

System and method for providing navigation instructions at optimal times

A smart necklace includes a body defining at least one cavity and having a neck portion and first and a second side portions. The necklace includes a pair of stereo cameras that is configured to detect image data including depth information corresponding to a surrounding environment of the smart necklace. The necklace further includes a positioning sensor configured to detect positioning data corresponding to a positioning of the smart necklace. The necklace includes a non-transitory memory positioned in the at least one cavity and configured to store map data and object data. The smart necklace also includes a processor positioned in the at least one cavity, coupled to the pair of stereo cameras, the positioning sensor and the non-transitory memory. The processor is configured to determine output data based on the image data, the positioning data, the map data and the object data.

Systems and methods for measuring image recognition accuracy are provided. One embodiment of a method includes locating an identifier in an environment, where the identifier is configured according to a predetermined format and where the identifier identifies an actual characteristic of an object. Some embodiments of the method include locating the object in the environment, determining a perceived characteristic of the object, and determining, from the identifier, the actual characteristic of the object. Similarly, some embodiments include comparing the actual characteristic of the object with the perceived characteristic of the object, determining whether the actual characteristic of the object substantially matches the perceived characteristic of the object and, in response to determining that the actual characteristic of the object does not substantially match the perceived characteristic of the object, determining a change to make for improving image recognition.
